Human Achievement Hour – 2012

Human Achievement HourOK, it’s that time of year again: Earth Hour is upon us where tonite between the hours of 8:30 and 9:30, we are all supposed to act like we are back in the Stone Age and just sit in the dark (ok, maybe a candle might be OK, but remember : IT’S CREATING MORE CO2!!!!!!).  But remember, it’s intentions that could (as with all things Liberal, the Environmental movement has morphed into after first being responsible) rather than actually, you know, accomplishing something concrete.

But SKIP!, you don’t think that turning off all the lights for exactly ONE hour is actually a responsible act?

Er, tell me this: when I looked at the World Wildlife Federation website: “We want you to dare the world to save the planet“.  Yeah, right – me sitting on my tush for an hour because I wouldn’t be able to see a thing in front of me (my shins would never forgive me for all the banging into things that I can’t see) is being responsible.  This could also be dangerous – imagine what the three ‘Grok dogs would do when they felt something step on their tails.

I’d rather continue with the Competitive Enterprise Institute (which we did in 2009 and 2010 (er, missed it last year)):

We see the Left today wishing to silence the opposition in the current political controversies – they have to because they can’t seemingly win the actual arguments.  My response is ALWAYS that the answer is MORE speech, not less speech.  The same applies here – the answer is not to regress to less but to strive for better.  Giving into the darkness is an admission of failure at best, an unwillingness to work for better at worst.  Instead of providing more opportunities like the once upon a time that the US gave to Thomas Edison (who, I dryly noted, that the Federal Government has outlawed his greatest invention), these folks wish to quietly huddle in the dark think environmental thoughts – all too willing to force the rest of us in their prison of darkness.

No folks, not for me!  I’m turning on EVERY electrical device in the house!  I also dryly note that the Chinese are manufacturing a new coal fired electrical plant every week – providing more electricity so that more of their countrymen no longer are stuck in the dark.  Us?  Our EPA is in the process of shutting our plants down – we soon may not have the chance to voluntarily choose for ourselves.

And that would be the worst of all.

(H/T: TreeHugger for reminding me of what a inane idea voluntarily regressing from modern life is)

As an evangelical Christian and Conservative with small "L" libertarian leanings, my fight is with Progressives forcing a collectivized, secular humanistic future upon us.
