From Commenter Concerned Windham Resident comes that question embedded in a rather long comment. In fact, it is, as he points out, the ONLY comment on an extremely short post (“A most sobering thought”) – an image (the meme: “Appreciate everything you have.

Rat Like Cunning Beats High IQ Every Time
Polarization Our country has become pretty polarized. Some see the split between the folks who are in the entertainment sphere, the journalism sphere; the sort of “high IQ” is sphere, and the people who are actually working the jobs that are actually getting things done across the country, the deplorables. The deplorables voice seems to … Read more
Sometimes, it is nice to receive a “thank you” instead of a “where’s my….”
I’ve mentioned on many occasions here that TMEW and I ran a daycare center for a few years; I also have stated that the folks that were almost always the folks that were the most appreciative of the care we gave to and around their most precious ones were those paying “full boat” prices. Yes, there were a few that were on State assistance that also in this category, but mighty few. For the majority, it was expected and sometimes, more was DEMANDED (and sometimes, got mad when we expected them to do something for themselves / kids). So, when this came in, a thank you, I decided to post it (emphasis mine, name redacted):
545 People Are Responsible For The Mess, But They Unite In A Common Con
“Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber.”~Plato, Ancient Greek Philosopher
Charley Reese retired July 29, 2001. Who was Charley Reese? He was a columnist, serving 30 of those years at the Orlando Sentinel. Characterized best by his plainspoken manner and conservative views, he was with the Sentinel from 1971–2001, serving as a writer and other such editorial capacities. King Features Syndicate distributed Charley’s column, which published up to three times a week.
On February 3, 1984 Charley originally published the column below. This column additionally republished as his final column. Rightfully so and despite being 27 years removed from its orignal publish date, it is no less relevant.
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The President does.
You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.
You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.
You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine how he votes.
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
Memorial Day: Remembering What We Did…
Marine Corps Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) Number 2112 “Precision Weapons Repairer. That is what I did. I found this entry on the Marine Corps Community for USMC veterans. I found it worthy of sharing. It took me back to the hard works and labors of my early days as a young Marine serving our country. So on this Memorial day, I not write of my own musings and thoughts, but I defer that to my brother Amorers who have so adeptly described what we do (and did). To them I say…Semper Fi!
The destructive power of a machine gun, mortar or rifle by itself is nothing, but when manned by Marines in combat, it strikes terror into the heart of the enemy.
Armorers in the Marine Corps make sure that each one of these weapons, along with many other small-arms, are secured, maintained and accounted for, until Marines need to put them to use.
Armorers are responsible for every weapon in their charge – 100 percent accountability at all times.
“Most people don’t realize how much we do on a daily basis,” said Sgt. Clinton Rosemeyer, armory chief, Headquarters and Service Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific. “Between the multiple weapons counts, issuing weapons, maintenance and inspections after recovering weapons – we keep pretty busy.”
The battalion’s armory contains pistols, rifles, machine guns and mortars. Armorers must be able to inspect the weapons to determine if they have malfunctions, need repairs or meet serviceability standards, according to Marine Corps Order P1200.7.
In order to do that, armorers must be able to disassemble and assemble every weapon in their charge, and be able to assess the condition of each piece of the weapon.
Christmas – thankfulness, hearing, and returning
Christmas That God would even consider sending His Son, to later die on the cross with foreknowledge for even the likes of me, is a gift beyond compare-a miracle too awesome to contemplate or understand. God incarnate, grace made alive, sin made perishable, forgiveness freely given – all in the form of a tiny, helpless … Read more
