I received an email from AFP this morning that announced this year’s Defender of Liberty award. Below is an excerpt from that email.
“Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire is proud to announce Joe Sweeney as our 2024 winner of the Tom Thomson Defender of Liberty award! Joe has spent the last year tirelessly fighting for lower taxes and reducing government in the Granite State. His dedication to New Hampshire has helped ensure our Live Free or Die culture we all love!”

Honoring Sweeney alone for group accomplishments for the Rs is an insult to every freedom fighter from within. What about Kelley Potenza’s 6/13 speech to the whole house that euthanized a bad Hampton amendment (1215)? What about Leah Cushman’s motion to suspend the rules that day (to investigate DSS)? What about Leah administering oaths and not backing down and caving to the Speaker’s threats? What about freshman Mike Belcher, who exposed Chairman Ladd’s ties to the NTU at the risk of being expelled from House Education? I’m sure there are many more worthy examples, but Potenza, Cushman, and Belcher are a good enough sample for now.
Honoring a good old boy from the establishment elite is not only a slap in the face to all the real freedom fighters in our previous legislature, but it’s also an insult to previous recipients of such awards. A few recent examples of them would be Gary Daniels, who spoke out and voted against Chuck Morse on that 11/19/21 taking of the dirty money and was one of 5 that voted on 5/5/22 in the senate(defying the will of Jeb and Queen Sharon) to keep HB 1210(standardized vax exemption) alive, or private citizen Chau Kelley.
Congratulations, AFP. In addition to having endorsed several ENEMIES OF 91A last summer and spending a fortune on anti-Trump mailers, you have once again shot yourself in the foot, credibilitywise.
