Something the Democratic Party, the Democratic Socialists, and National Socialists (as well as the communists) all have in common is envy.
The fact is that the National Socialist Party itself — the Nazi Party — was itself propelled by envy, and today’s Democratic Socialist movement similarly uses envy as the engine of its appeal. New York City’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani has tapped into that same dynamic, using envy as the emotional fuel for his brand of Democratic Socialism — and antisemitism — in New York City.
The foundation of the modern American Left’s community organizing, the radicalization needed for their revolution, is envy. They claim “they” have things you don’t have. The original “thing” was money, property, and class warfare, but the cultural Marxists in America had to evolve that messaging. Anyone in America could change their class, as in their economic circumstances, and people of little means improved their lives every day.
If you commit to something and it creates value for someone else, you can climb that ladder. You don’t need permission.
While wealth envy is still at the top of the list (it is envy that is easy to sell), other “things” have been added into the recipe. Rights envy, for example. This shouldn’t work in America at all but does. Everyone is created equal, but we are still flawed human beings, and if you focus entirely on division, you can create the illusion that we are not. Where the things that exist to keep government from infringing on your natural rights are blamed so government can undermine those protections.
Democrats create problems they then grow government to solve; only government, which gets bigger and more expensive, makes them worse, and the cycle repeats. The enemy isn’t the people or the thing they say we need more government to fight; it’s government itself.
Human nature makes it easy, and if it’s not working, you simply inject more fear. Always with the systematic dehumanization of whoever it is that has been targeted as the reason for the envy or the cause of the advertised injustice or misery.
In a sociological analysis of academia during the pre-Holocaust period in Germany, Sombart found that on average, “Jews are quite a lot more clever and industrious than we are,” and he used that insight to justify prohibiting Jews from holding academic chairs in universities. Regretting that it was “regrettable” that most of the time, if there were two candidates, “the stupider one, not the Jew was chosen.” Aly pointed out that Sombart was “not a racist” even though the logic of racial antisemitism drove his arguments. Still, Sombart — like many German intellectuals — later embraced virulent antisemitic ideas.
The political left works to otherize anyone who isn’t all-in on their division plan. Every victim class has an enemy who should not be viewed as anything but that. Not even a person. It is why someone assassinated Charlie Kirk, why Luigi Mangione is a hero of the left for assassinating a CEO on the street in cold blood, and why taking shots at ICE agents and Donald Trump are deemed a necessary good.
Democrats continue to and have consistently encouraged this perception and the violence to which it leads. Not because they are right but because they are no different than the Nazis (or any other socialist political machine) in their psychology and their goals.
History has shown that the kind of hostility directed toward the Jews in the past does not remain symbolic; it hardens into policy, exclusion, and eventually violence. That is the danger when Mayor Zohran Mamdani-style calls for envy become a political tool for mobilization. Once a society convinces itself that one group’s success is the source of everyone else’s frustration, scapegoating stops being symbolic and begins shaping real behavior. The lesson for us is not that history repeats itself, but that envy — when weaponized — can move quickly from resentment to action. It is a warning worth remembering.
The Democratic Party has a problem, and like all problems, it is of their own making, deliberate, and a danger to the people they claim to advocate for, public safety, our culture, and the nation. And, increasingly, to Democrats themselves.
But to fix it, they have to stop believing in the thing that defines them as a party. Envy.
