BOWMAN: In Opposition Stands Old Glory

When I think back, most textbooks began with WWII and skipped earlier events, except for the Civil War. And while WWII was the defining event of the last century, it still hasn’t been fully recognized for its impact. This reminds me of what two friends, both sons of WWII veterans—one who served in the Pacific and the other in Europe—told me they both believed Russia was the biggest winner of the war.

Certain aspects of the war, which bear significantly upon today’s wayward appeal for socialism, have been ignored.  A major example is that Russia was the only communist country in the world when the war began.   When the war concluded, their solitude ended as their empty ranks bulged into double digits!

After the war, Russia began to consolidate and strengthen, while America spent tax dollars on the rebuilding of Europe.  Also, since then, American troops have ironically been stationed in Europe to deter the communist expansion from our former ally.

In the Pacific theater, our government, for some reason, welcomed Russia’s last-minute declaration against Japan, despite only days being left before Japan’s surrender!  As such, Russia avoided any combat or loss of life.   However, the forthcoming peace agreement granted Russia official control over Manchuria, North Korea, and China!  This was in addition to her recent European possessions of Poland, Hungary, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia.

This pro-communist nonsense wasn’t just limited to our WWII policies.  Closer to home and years later, Fidel Castro was publicly introduced as “a freedom fighter” and was featured in Newsweek and the New York Times as “the George Washington of Cuba.” Before and after he gained control in 1959, America’s unofficial opinion was echoed with former President Eisenhower’s 1963 utterance that “only a genius or a prophet could have known for sure that Cuban Premier Fidel Castro was a Communist in the 1950’s.”

Fast forward to the present.  Not too long ago, New York City was subjected to a terrorist attack that killed approximately 3000 innocent Americans.  Our response was to claim the unity of being “all New Yorkers” and to “never forget.”  In two short decades, that unity has withered, and memories have faded.  That’s the polite version for admitting that New York City voters elected a Muslim communist as mayor of America’s “big apple!”

This dereliction of citizenship, which has now vice-gripped NYC, must be our “last straw!”  Such a conversion of American thought and loyalty demonstrates that Russia’s building blocks of WWII were stepping stones leading to her present day conquest.

The official disregard of these little-known facts falls in line with today’s change of direction, which is highlighted by one political party’s avowed anti-Americanism.  In fact, a red tagging of that group has been earned.  Still, we are fortunate that this nest has been so brazen with their hateful rhetoric and anti-banners!  In opposition stands Old Glory, our American flag, always shining brightly by the Blessed truth from our Creator!
