Today’s attitudes regard our American Constitution as an old and worn document from another age, one that is inadequate for today’s modern needs. In fact, whenever it’s cited, an explanation for its use is usually given since today’s hindsight condemns its time to that sad and dark era of slavery. We forget or even fail to consider that nations have never achieved perfection, although America’s original design has come the closest!
From America’s beginning, the foundation of her free and independent being was the diligence required of each person’s vote. The understanding was as basic as today’s “money in, money out” checking account routines: the more voter effort, the higher the quality of governing! Today’s unauthorized governing is largely attributable to one’s dismissal of their own time, effort and duty. Also, those non-voting complainers hurt.
Another crippling agent of our free elections has been the emergence of political parties and their growing influence and control over candidate selection. On a more positive note, there are still Americans who volunteer with a love and desire to serve and better their country! Once in office, their voting most usually abides by our Founding tenets.
Today, this dysfunctional governance has gotten so brazen that it openly controls the weakest of our three branches, the Judiciary. Many of today’s judicial rulings defy the laws that they are charged with preserving. This trend is bolstered by their reliance upon the political dominance of one party in Congress. Also, their illegal rulings are caused by electing Presidents who were undeserving of the office. As our Founders stated, it all comes down to “we the people,” America’s “final sovereigns!”
An offshoot of our governmental deterioration is this recent urban destruction, violence, and murder; all of which fail to merit any legal enforcement. This again reverts to election times at the local levels. Stemming from media and social influences, these elected officials are inherently unqualified, yet still hold office! Sadly, the poster boy for this is the new NYC mayor, who, aside from his communist/Islamic beliefs, has never even held a job! Clearly, his election totals tell the tale since the vast majority of NYC citizens refrained from voting! A result directly charged to voter participation!
The adage about that long journey and its first step certainly applies and is very practical, since America is still worth preserving. Each of us has the ability to be honest, to not only make an effort but to maximize it to the limit. The ordinary isn’t the solution. What we normally “take for granted” needs a jealous care that corresponds to our instinctual love and care for our precious children! Our efforts need to be endless!
Bottom line: what you see is what you will continue to get without effort.
As our Nation nears her 250th year of freedom, we must dig so much deeper, not only to gain a rich understanding and appreciation of our country’s history, but also to fuel the protection of our Blessed America after July Fourth.
In George Washington’s Farewell speech, he stated, “The name AMERICAN, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of patriotism…” May God Bless America, always! Happy Birthday to George Washington.
