GraniteGrok has consistently called out the mafeasance and misfeasance of government at every level for two decades. Without deference to any political party. But without looking, I’m going to guess that among the 60,000 or so pieces of content we’ve published in that time, there are none that show Democrats advancing any idea you could confuse with making life more affordable. Quite the opposite. So, when Virginia Democrats ran on making life for Virginians, we knew they were lying.
The Democrat legacy is more government (which costs more), more regulations (which cost more), more welfare (which costs a lot more), driving up energy costs (which everytthing cost even more), they are weak on crime (which costs even more and sometimes everything when released criminals or aliens kill you), and on, and on. Not one idea Democrats have reduces the price you will pay to keep living under jackboots. [Related – GrokTALK!: Another Stake in the Left’s Black “Affordability” Heart]
A few days ago, I wrote about a published list of proposed taxes and regulations that the new Democratic majority in Virginia is looking to pass. Gov. Abigail Spanberger is itchin’ to get them on her desk so she can sign them into law. Each and every one will make life more affordable in the Old Dominion.
To quote from Billy Mays (may he rest in peace), Wait, there’s more.
Since Virginia is about to get a lot more expensive to live in, the legislators want to more than double their salary.
…an amendment to the Virginia state budget (SB30), introduced by Democrats L. Louise Lucas in the state Senate and Vivian Edna Watts in the House of Delegates, would more than double their salaries, raising the pay in both chambers by about 150%.
The pay increases of $27,360 for the state delegates and $27,000 for senators comes, is scheduled to kick in “after the next election of the General Assembly.” It would increase annual spending by more than $2.1 million.
If this sounds familiar, Democrats in Vermont tried to do the same thing when they had veto-proof majorities in their legislature.
Last year, Vermont Democrats and Progressives put forward a bill (S.39) to raise legislative pay by over double, plus a generous benefits package that regular Vermonters working a similar part-time job would not qualify for. Governor Scott vetoed the bill, which passed the House 102-44 and the Senate 19-10 largely along party lines.
Keep in mind that the Vermont Dems’ effort was during Bidenflation, as that legislature rammed through a long list of tax hikes, cost increases, and regulatory burdens that were both.
New Hampshire Dems and everyoen elses want the exact same things. More government, more taxes, higher taxes, more regulations.
If you detect a pattern, then you win the self-enlightenment prize. It is both as inspiring as a revelation (cue chorus of angels and or wow, I could have had a V8) and maddeningly depressing. But it should not be surprising.
The most expensive places to live in America are run by democrats. The states people are fleeing in search of affordability are run by Democrats. Highest crime, violence, poverty, dependency, number of criminal aliens, losing businesses and jobs, all in Blue cities and states. Virginia is just the latest lesson in a long list of them that leads us to the midterms and then the 2028 Presidential elections.
- Democrats will lie about anything and everything to win office
- Whatever they accuse their opponents of, they have done, are doing, or will do.
- Democrats who win will use government to not just make your life unaffordable but make it impossible to fix it later.
This is the way.
It makes no difference what you think about Republicans. If you want the government to take less of your money, get less involved in your life, and to get out of the way so the market can create real jobs (instead of government jobs), real wealth (privacy, peace, educated kids, the opportunity for prosperity), you have to stop voting for Democrats.
Just STOP!
If affordability matters to you, the GOP is your only path to it. And they will get you there if you give them time and your vote at the state and federal levels.
Don’t be a Virginian. Don’t be fooled by the lies.
Democrats don’t know how to do anything but make everything more expensive.
