BOWMAN: A National Calling

Times certainly have changed when catchy words can dismiss our relevant past. Despite such gibberish, what endures are our deeply embedded instincts to care for and love those we have brought into this world.  That, in addition to our natural love of country, portrays just how immoral and evil it would be to do otherwise.  With this being so, our course should be clear, especially when our American backs are now against the wall!

Current thoughts and attitudes are embarrassing when compared to the situation George Washington faced in 1776.  He informed his troops that, “The time is now near at hand and which must probably determine, whether Americans are to be Freeman or Slaves; we have therefore to resolve to conquer or die.”

The gunfire that Washington and his men endured is no longer, since today’s enemy has discovered a new brand of warfare, of which its rewards seem more certain, given its targeting.  Changing times have war leaving the battlefield for this quieter and more lasting goal of capturing the individual’s mind, whose defenselessness is demanding.  Also too, think about the simplicity of this strategy; gone are the huge armies and associated industries!  Instead, this is simply a one-sided flow of words and ideas, spiced with a few emotional tidbits, to quiet the remaining source of resistance, our human hearts.

This new approach is even more doable given our past WWII sense of superiority.  Prior to that war, today’s enemy began with a small but dedicated nucleus that, from effective academic positions, began to accumulate an endless stream of believers.  The advantage of such a quiet style of recruitment was and is the interminable yearly supply of personnel.

Despite the belief that America is impregnable, due to her superior military and industrial might, her present vulnerability, which in previous wars was never a concern, is now a concern for her unsuspecting citizenry, specifically, their idle attitudes and beliefs.  More importantly, extra attention is now reserved for her young.  Actually, this importance for youth is a rehash of Hitler’s understanding that his longevity was best served with what he termed,  “Hitler Youth.”  So, it’s likely that future war strategies will gravitate towards the less messy war of the mind rather than yesterday’s bloody and brutal alternative.

Fortunately, America’s one remaining stalwart is what the American home is actually known for, nurturing love.  Therefore, parents need to increase what comes naturally to protect further and nurture those who matter most.  Ramping up our paternal instincts not only cements the family bonds but also fulfills America’s critical calling.  In essence, “motherly love” becomes America’s best weapon.  Of course, the necessary “at home” demands require a redo of priorities, but our youngest and our country hang in the balance! Sadly, changing times have families at the front line of America’s defense.

Another page from our remarkable past should strengthen today’s protective calling with this Ben Franklin tidbit: “There is no rank in natural knowledge of equal dignity and importance with that of being a good parent.”  In today’s world of endless indoctrination, parents are the best and most effective refuge, and for which no strategy will ever overcome.
