MacDonald: Never Forget That Democrats Hate You

Lest anyone begin to imagine a world where having more Democrats in elected office might be different, which implies better, think again. Then think some more because the political left doesn’t want “better.” Not for you. No finer example comes to us in a recent uptick in earnings and foot traffic at Target. The retailer beat projections after closing stores.

That isn’t your typical growth strategy, but when you try to do business in liberal political ghettoes, well – maybe it is.

The impact of organized retail crime has been staggering. In 2022, theft caused an estimated $700 million loss for Target, with shrinkage continuing to be a major issue. By 2023, losses from inventory shrinking were still significant, amounting to $500 million. These staggering figures made it clear that Target needed a strategy to protect its profits and staff. Closing nine stores in high-crime areas, including cities like New York City, Seattle, and the Bay Area was one solution aimed at curbing theft.

Target isn’t the only one that had to close shop and beat feet. Grocery stores, pharmacies, and even Amazon shuttered retail operations in large cities, creating swaths of urban landscape with little or no access to everyday goods and services. These retail deserts were the direct result of deliberate policy choices by local government—decisions by district attorneys who refused to prosecute property and other crimes.

We’ve seen similar problems in smaller cities like Burlington, Vermont, where the Democrats and socialists running things engage in similar priorities. And Burlington has gotten what it asked for by voting for candidates whose interests are detrimental to their own.

New York City, Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, and the rest suffer from self-inflicted wounds. A program of economic self-harm that makes an already challenging life that much more difficult.

A life made difficult by the same Democrats who allowed crime to drive much-needed access beyond the reach of everyday citizens, who are then told it’s someone else’s fault. And the disturbing reality isn’t just that these choices are premeditated but that, despite the obvious consequences, the pro-crime Left clings to them.

Left to their own devices, Democrats will continue on this path of ruin, by which we mean yours, from more local crime to a borderless nation that invites cartels, traffickers, and foreign terrorists into the interior. They are a party that offshores our intellectual property, jobs, and supply chains, devalues our wages and savings, while suppressing our speech and other natural rights.

Growth, opportunity, and affordable energy are shunned. The American dream is spun down as some sort of supremacist obsession that leaves all but a few behind.

You don’t have to love Donald Trump or his supporters, but before you let media-manufactured hate drive you back to the Democrats, consider what that means – not for political pundits and talking heads, but you.

Democrat rule is not just deliberately dangerous; it can be deadly.
