I found this, among some others, over at Barnorama:
“Taxes are like a subscription to your Country that you can’t cancel, no matter how bad the service gets.”
Well, the “can’t cancel” bit is undoubtedly valid. Even if you are so low on the economic totem pole that you do not pay income taxes, except in a few States, you will be paying a tax of one kind or another. You have no choice in the matter; “deciding poorly” will mean, at some point, a man with a badge will come calling, and it won’t be the usual sort of chit-chat you’d have with your neighbor, friends, or co-workers.
I also saw a falsity there as well: “a subscription.” Almost all subscriptions are voluntary – Every “Yes” can also be a “No.” Choice. Freedom – you know, that attribute the Government is supposed to protect. EVERYONE in government is supposed to protect us from those who would take it away.
Unfortunately, too many in government believe that your money really belongs to them. So do many “citizens” whose patriotism means shoveling their money, as WELL as yours, to all the tax collectors in sight.
Right, Bruce Curry?
