More Than 88% of Endorsed ReopenNH Candidates Move On to the General Election

Reopen NH Save Livlihoods

EAST DERRY, N.H.—ReopenNH endorsed candidates won significant victories during Tuesday’s Primary Election vote, proving that Granite Staters want their lives and livelihoods back to normal, and they understand that any possibility of COVID-19 as a threatening pandemic is now long past.

“We are pleased that 101 of our endorsed candidates are moving on to the general election with the clear message that runaway government edicts have created a greater threat to the health and safety of Granite Staters than the Coronavirus ever did, and they are prepared to get government out of the way so New Hampshire residents can get their lives and livelihoods back on track,” said Andrew J. Manuse, chairman of ReopenNH. “We are confident that other candidates running alongside our winners will note this victory and join in a rational debate about the role of government during a state of emergency.”

ReopenNH endorsed 115 bipartisan candidates during the primary election and 88 percent of them have moved on to the general election. Notably, of the group’s endorsed candidates, Executive Councilor Dave Wheeler crushed Sen. Bob Clegg in a head-to-head primary decision in Executive Council District 5. Clegg was the prime sponsor of HB-1461, 2002, the bill that became RSA 4:45, which allowed the governor to assume the role of the Legislature by passing new policy in the form of emergency orders. We look forward to our endorsed candidates’ efforts to fix this law and restore policymaking decisions to the Legislature, which is what the Constitution requires.

As it pertains to “the no-longer State of Emergency,” the governor set standards for returning to normal back in April, and those standards have long been met. As of this release, there are less than 250 cases of Coronavirus, only nine people in the hospital, and one death in the last 10 days, among 1.3 million Granite Staters. ReopenNH notes that there has been a massive increase in the number of daily tests, largely due to students returning to college, and the number of daily positive test results remains below 1 percent.

“Just increasing testing to see which college students may have COVID-19 won’t lead to good policy decisions, and bureaucrats advising the governor need to start using scientific measures to drive their recommendations,” said JR Hoell, treasurer of ReopenNH. “We will be working to elect candidates with medical and technical backgrounds capable of implementing good public policy from their seats in the Legislature.”
