Let’s translate – "Oops, this blew up in my face and in Jennifer Horn’s.  PLEASE resign so we can just get this to go away quietly – this was not supposed to happen".  Congratulations on picking on a former Navy guy (Jack).  I was asked by an activist that I trust "What is the last thing that a Navy captain wants to do?"  It took me all of 2 seconds to respond: "Abandon ship". The absolute phrase uttered only when nothing else has worked; worse than being relieved of command.  Any business owner has an inkling of the outlook – as their biz becomes "their baby", a ship becomes the leader’s raison d’etre and will sacrifice all for its benefit.

That is the mindset, I believe, with Jack.  No, he has not served for decades, but it IS that spirit in still observing his oath of fealty to this country.  The miscalculation was that Jack was a budding politician – wrong thing to do: the last thing that Jack does is think like a politician.  I guess that is one of the things people wanted when they voted for him, a real person, but must be driving the real pols absolutly bat-crazy thinking he is about to become one of them.

In this light, resigning is akin to "abandon ship" – a "friend" would know better and not evoke the condition under which that would be necessary.  An astute person would have realized it from the get go if they actually knew who Jack is.

Hey, NH GOP Exec Board, you FUC***D up – where’s the DUE PROCESS??

As most of my close / long term friends know, I rarely use such impolite words like the above title implies.  When I do descend to such levels to use such, it shows a such level of disgust that I am failing to find a "high road" way that adequately describes the situation.  This whole mess is one of those times.  As I pointed out here, the politicalese is now coming out.  It always seems that when the tough gets going, the smoother and silkier the verbiage becomes. And now, within the boundaries of the ByLaws, the Executive Committee (36 or so members) will be finishing the borking of Jack Kimball on Thursday, Sept 1 with a fait accompli result of an undignified firing.  Such a deal – shred the TEA Party guy after only 8 months, lost three special elections, but had the 2nd best fundraising while Fergus Cullen lost two general elections, blithered through lots of money, an expensive lawsuit….. but got two full year?

Oh yeah, Fergus hates conservatives.

All we E-Boarders have to do is vote this problem away, right?

Not so fast, sports.  The base is not happy about this….and guess what – they can read too!  And active, they are.  With word that the Executive Board (contact info here) is going to merely go through the motions this Thursday (Sept 1), the activists have decided to take on the EBoard. Two petitions have now come out asking that elected delegates to the NH GOP Committee (the 400 or so Republicans that vote on stuff within the Party), sign one of several petitions that are calling for a Special Meeting. 

Their purpose?  To take the decision away from the E-Board, or, the ability to override their decision.  Those little people, such uppitiness!  Whatsa matter with them, don’t they know their place?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the matter. I have spent the day reading and re-reading your thoughts below as well as many other posts which have arrived in my inbox.

I understand the analogy you used, and, at some levels the “mission” as it might be considered, can be likened to warfare. However, in reading your words, a little voice in the back of my head whispers that it is the lockstep mentality so prevalent in the opposition political party that is being suggested here.

To speak directly to the “sides” issue, I find it curious that there seems to be an argument that donations to the GOP are being “withheld” because these unnamed donors  are disinclined to release said funds because Jack Kimball is the GOP chair. I’m not the smartest knife in the drawer, but there seems to be a “side” taken in this matter if this scenario is accurate. A little hypocrisy here? Where is the “team” behavior you cite on the part of those currently at odds with the Chairman? Probably not with “Jack and you folks ”, as you eloquently state below. Are you suggesting that you are on a different “side” than “Jack and you folks”; in conflict with the statement that “Once Jack was elected the "sides" issues go away and the team or mission and platform take precedent.”

There is a long-standing and well-documented history of conservatives of every flavor – social, fiscal, or otherwise – being marginalized or ignored by the “Establishment” Republicans in the Party. What I Hate About Wal-Mart

It’s not one of those "angst at their humongous success" screeds, I’m just trying to figure out why it takes so damn long to get out of that place.  So this is more about fundamentals of business.  Because the retail giant, that’s how the media refers to them, has in fact added much needed efficiencies to the global distributions system.  No argument there.  They provide discounted items to hundreds of millions annually, making creature comforts and necessary every-day products attainable to a wider swath of the population than anyone. (And more efficiently than the Democrats beloved federal government, I might add.) And they employ an army larger than most armies–wage and benefit arguments aside–because when you have staggering, persistent, inflation and unemployment as we do in the Obama economy, still having a job to wake up to is like getting a raise every-single- day. Even if the government is making it worth less and less, every-single-day.

Wal-MartSo what’s my beef (about Wal-Mart)?

I work in Amherst, New Hampshire and the Wal-Mart Super Store there is, if nothing else, convenient.   It is convenient to get to, but not convenient to get out of, and there lies my "operational" complaint.  No matter what time of day I am in there, 6am, lunchtime, afternoon, evening,…there are never, EVER, enough cashiers.  Did I say never?

The average time spent standing in the check-out line at Wal-Mart is most certainly a reflection of their desire to charge less for some items, but can we possibly try to keep it under fifteen minutes?  It takes me twice as long to get out as it does to do the actual shopping, most of which is spent walking from the entrance to whatever zip code the milk cooler is in and back.  This is a problem.

Long check out lines.  High average check.  Cashier bagging everything….hope you are not in a hurry.

So what about the self-checkout? Great idea.  I love it.  Except that so does everyone else because the other lines are so damn long. 

The latest trend at self-checkout, OK it is not the latest I’m just being timely, seems to be that people with fifty items or more also feel compelled to use it, as if this will actually take less time than standing in another line.  These are of course the same people who have no idea how to use it, if that gives you some idea of where this is headed.

This is not like trying a new salad dressing at lunch, or a new look, or even a new vacation destination.  This is serious.  Other peoples lives are affected.

I guess that they didn’t cotton much to the little people besting them in a fair election

In Wisconsin this last election cycle, the Progressive Democrats and unions were booted from power after having had their way for decades.  Voters finally decided that they should not wield that power and those that were voted in immediately set in on to do what they campaigned on.  However, the Progressives & unions decided they didn’t have to accept that result and started recalls, hoping to override the November results. They have been used to wielding power for decades – and took it for granted.  When they lost their majorities, they flipped their lids.

How is this much different with the situation in the NH GOP?  The perception (which makes it reality) of the grassroots is that while the old guard lost but, as Steve put it so well, they have seemingly been fighting the results of January since.  Now, they are looking for their version of the Democrat’s recall.

It is my opinion that they believe they are trying to right a wrong.  They also believe that there is only an upside for them in that the grassroots that helped to put Jack Kimball into the Chair have no where else to go.  In essence, they believe there is absolutely no downside to this attack, on the idea of "they have no where else to go" as well as "Suckers, there is NOTHING they can do in retaliation". They believe there is no consequence to their decision and action.

There needs to be one. If Jack survives the vote, he should immediately turn around and ask for those who voted against him to resign. He also should pivot and bring in more of the Freedom folks to advise and run things. Why? This is only one battle, IMHO, in this seemingly endless enmity between the Establishment and grassroots. it will not stop here.  In fact, this will only cause that to increase.

Guest Post by Peter Bearse & Rick Parent – Frank Guinta: Not your cup of TEA

The Tea Partier facade that Rep. Frank Guinta cultivated during his 2010 campaign has been fractured. He voted for the Boehner compromise during the debt limit debate, better known as the Boehner bill. This vote revealed Mr. Guinta’s true identity — that of a go-along/get-along [GA/GA] Member of Congress who, as one Tea Party member remarked, is already “getting too comfortable with Washington,” unwilling or unable to risk his political career for the sake of principle.

A meeting of about 25 political activists from around the 1st Congressional District was convened by Rep. Guinta in his Manchester District Office on August 10th. Most of them were Tea Party folks. One of them, Ray Shakir, had come all the way from N. Conway for the meeting. He swore that “All of the Tea Partiers were against Frank’s vote.” They left dissatisfied with his lengthy explanation of why he voted as he had. The “explanation” amounted to an unconvincing rationalization. A recognized NH Tea Party leader noted that the Boehner bill established an unconstitutional “Super Committee”. Another attendee said he felt that Frank had voted for a “bad bill.” He was “struggling to understand why.” The only reason he could imagine was “fear.” Frank denied this but didn’t explain why even though he was aware that the fear factor had been played up by the mainstream media and Pres. Obama.

Perhaps the main reasons were unspoken. That Frank is attempting to be a Rep. to all of his constituents. He is focused on reelection [Aren’t they all?]. And so he lost the courage of his convictions and/or bought into the Dem’s view that getting identified with the Tea Party is a “poison pill” that makes him unelectable — “dead meat.” We don’t share that view, but note again Ray Shakir: “He (Frank) tried to play the candle’s middle by burning both ends.” Even his usually astute political judgment here is open to question. U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte has gotten a lot of praise for her vote vs. the “Boehner” bill.
