NH GOP – a riff on the E-board angst reported by DiStaso

I had bookmarked the Dec 4 version of the UL’s DiStazo’s column which discussed the $25 fee that the NH GOP was looking to impose upon the new State Committee members (which I labeled a “poll tax” because it was set to be collected in order to vote for the new officers of the NH GOP and whatever business needed to be attended to.  Sure, I’m a bit late, but because I seemingly fit into NH GOP Finance Chair Jim Foley’s “so-called journalist” category, I had a few thoughts (reformatted to save space):

NHGOP finance chairman Jim Foley opposed rescinding the fee.   “This drives me crazy,” he wrote in an email reply to MacDonald.  “Why, when there is some push-back, do we cave in?” wrote Foley, who also chairs the Derry Republican Committee. “This decision was made by unanimous vote of the executive committee after much discussion and with the idea of getting a more committed state committee member. We deliberately imposed no sanction for failure to pay this fee.

And we out in the hinterlands (as Kevin Landrigan says) are supposed to simply nod our heads

“Who are these complaints coming from? Very few new state committee members have been elected. The Derry committee has been chosen and we have heard no issues about this fee.”

Foley wrote that the two candidates for state chairman are “pandering to what they perceive will be their supporters, and so-called journalists who always try to stir things, creating a controversy where none exists.”

He suggested the state party send an email “that makes it clear our reasoning behind the request for the fee and that there are no consequences for failure to pay the fee.”

He said he does not believe a special meeting is necessary.

Same column, but where Jim Foley expressed a hubris, it is easy to hear the frustration of former NH GOP Chair and current RNC Committeeman Steve Duprey.  While Foley gets what he deserves, I have a bit more sympathy (yes folks, I did use that word voluntarily) for Duprey (reformatted):

Duprey said that especially after a poor GOP showing on election day, “Anyone who thinks you don’t need adequate resources in what has become a purple state is dreaming.”…He also said the party should have a “job description for the members of the state committee.  “When I was chairman,” he said, “we used to have a guide of how many hours we expected of you. You had to help us recruit candidates, you had to train candidates, you had write letters and update our data base. And you must help us fund-raise.”

You know, I think this is a good idea – but it has to be done well ahead of time if it is going to be a formal responsibility. Given the poor results, things do need to change and…

Sidenote: hey, I wonder if what the consensus is on the E-Board really is given Foley’s remark (“Don’t think that the State Party did that badly in this election.“) and Duprey saying” a poor GOP showing”?

…given what the other side did, change in a major way.  While what Duprey is preaching can be construed to be major, one thing is sure: you don’t spring it on people just before the picking of Members. and before the State Meeting.  I will say, concerning what tasks and expectations may be required (once and future), they  have not been communicated downward from the NH GOP well lately.  This decree sure was a really bad example of poor thinking, poor planning, poor communication, and poor messaging.  And the E-Board is/was surprised at the reaction?

If you ignore all the marketing and PR that surrounds the fiscal cliff and just boil it all down to the bones, what happens on January first is what Democrats wanted. Ace Gets it right Here.

Remember, the deal that got us to this point was agreed to by House Republicans, Senate Democrats and signed by Obama. That’s as bi-partisan as it gets. I’ve heard from squishy low information voters, Obama and the media that “bi-partisan problem solving” is the Holy Grail of politics. Well, here it is.

The Cliff is a Democrat plan. It was passed by a Democrat Senate, signed by a Democrat President, and as Ace points out, is precisely the kind of compromise the left insists Republicans engage in over and over again.

I am confused here. I think I need to recap some facts as one who has served in the United States Military.  Moreover, I think Park Jae-sang, the artist also know as “PSY” of Gag-em-style fame…(or is that Gangnam?)…oh whatever the hell it is…I think he played Hooky from school on History day.

On 25 June 1950, North Korean Communist forces crossed the 38th parallel, sparking what liberals like to call, “The Korean Conflict.” We all know however, it was a war. Driving back communist forces all the way to the Yalu River, prompted the People’s Republic of China to enter the war.  After three years of bloody fighting, an uneasy armistice  was inked on27 July, 1953. The Armistice brought fighting to a conclusion and established the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North Korea and South Korea. To this day, U.S forces still occupy the two and a half-mile wide DMZ with minor skirmishes taking place from time to time.

NH Journal, you remember them, Shawn Millerick, Pat Hynes…they specialize in political fiction.  Well, I guess they had a poll asking who should be the next Chair of the NHGOP.

The NH Journal Poll has the following results:

Who should be the next Chair of the NHGOP?
Andrew Hemingway (59%)
Someone else (21%)
Jennifer Horn (20%)

So does the Candidate NH Journal and the Establishment GOP are pimping for, Jennifer Horn, wish she was “someone else” about now?  At least that way she’d be in second place in the race for Chairman instead of last.

David Lang Wins Free Speech Award…Say What?

David lang gets free speech awardDavid Lang is the President of the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire (PFFNH).  The PFFNH has a mission, beyond the obvious one of representing fire fighters, and that is to elect Democrats and progressive (r)epublicans, the latter in places that are unlikely to vote for a ‘D.’

This is a union that has invested no small sum in cash and man hours to elect and keep Democrats in power in New Hampshire.  So when I learned that the guy in charge of that union had just received the Nackey Loeb First Amendment Award I though it was a joke.

If It Were Me, I’d Do What Obama Is Doing

A cunning legerdemain is in the works, and, if it were me, I’d follow and do what Obama is doing. Think about the Fiscal Cliff/Sequestration for a moment. Faultless tax increases and faultless spending cuts, and, more importantly, among those spending cuts are juicy, delicious Defense cuts. This is a big spending Democrat’s wet dream. If you don’t believe me, ask Howard Dean, who said that the Fiscal Cliff:

“…is actually the best deal progressive Democrats are going to get. And here’s why. One, we get the Clinton tax rates on everybody. Will it cause a problem? Yes. There will be a short recession, and it will be painful. But two, we get Defense cuts. Republicans are never going to agree to that. And three, there are some human services cuts, which we’re not going to like. But it’s the least possible damage.”

So, if I was a big spender turned on by the sloppy inefficiencies of big government, why the heck would I not want to go over the cliff? And does anyone deny that Kaptain O is a big spender? The guy has racked up over $6 trillion in debt in one term and is on track to rack up more debt than all the other presidents combined. What’s even more impressive is that he has nothing to show for it! Try to do that if you’re fiscally prudent. You can’t. It can’t be done unless you’re awash in other people’s money and blow through it like a Secret Service agent blowing through a line of cocaine off a hooker’s belly.  So, if I were a Obama, I’d do what I could to guarantee we careen well over the cliff and land somewhere well beyond the slope–pull a Thelma and Louise and jettison 80 mph into the canyon.
