Iowa: but there is still a reason they (and we) play the game

Said mostly about sports but still in politics too.  This is just out – the Bloomberg Politics / Des Moines Register poll.  I hadn’t taken much notice of this in previous races but I am seeing, not that this “breaking news” is out, it is rather spot on the majority of the time.  Sure, it … Read more

Laws For Thee, Not For Me

Addicted to ‘Something’ in New Hampshire

By special request, this is a (just under 3 minute) monologue I recorded in place of a top-of-the-hour news read. It is on the expansion of Medicaid in New Hampshire (the re-authorization theater), the state’s “Heroin epidemic,” and inspired by the great works of Theodore Dalrymple on opiate addiction and the bureaucracy. .

New Hampshire’s Medicaid Expansion fraud: Granite Staters will pay the price

medicaidexpansionphoto

Yesterday the New Hampshire House Health and Human Services Committee held a public hearing on re-authorizing Obamacare’s Medicaid Expansion (they renamed it to the Health Protection Plan because a majority of Granite Staters disapprove of Obamacare). The hearing was to discuss House Bill 1696 which re-authorizes Medicaid Expansion through 2020.

The original plan was supposed to sunset when federal funds went below 100%. Legislators lied to New Hampshire. The federal funds will indeed be dipping below the 100% in 2017 but they were in the house pushing a re-authorization rather than the sunset it as promised.

Businessman Need Not Apply! Wait…

… scratch that.

I heard about this William F. Buckley quote but didn’t read it until a few days ago.  And since that time, I’ve had a chance to chew on it.

buckley_on_trump
Parts of Buckley’s statement do seem to fit, do they not?  Especially the reference to Trump’s vanity.  And regardless of what one thinks about Trump’s style — effusive self-aggrandizement, the maundering occasionally incoherent free-verse, the combative elbows-out swagger — the criticism regarding “a successful business man” in this quote rings fair in my view… at least it did on first glance.  Now, I’m not so sure.

The Washington Establishment only Fears Ted Cruz

If you are happy with our government in Washington, DC, then just vote for any Presidential Primary candidate approved by the Republican or Democrat establishment.
Any such “approved” candidate will continue most or all the big government, wasteful, corrupt policies that destroy jobs, places an immoral debt burden on future Americans, oppresses citizens, and ignores the expressed wishes and best interests of the American people.

Taxpayer Funding for Planned Parenthood Rears Its Ugly Head – AGAIN!

planned-parenthood-sign-parts-service-e1439203467161

Due to the votes of courageous Executive Councilors Wheeler, Kenney, and Sununu, taxpayer funding is no longer flowing to Planned Parenthood health centers here in NH. Under the continued scandals and propaganda, the Progressives in New Hampshire are working hard to put Planned Parenthood hands BACK into your pockets.  Quite amazing to be sure.  There are many parts to this puzzle, so hang on.

NH Police Chiefs staging their own Washington Monument Syndrome over Asset Forfeiture spigot shutof?

needle syringeThe Washington Monument Syndrome is the typical response when a bureaucracy is denied its funding – it ALWAYS goes after the most newest and brightest Shiny Object – and then either deny access to it by taxpayers (e.g., close the W.M. to tourists) or declare DISASTER if their funding is denied.  And in this case, monies not under the control of anyone but by them.  Only a part from the Nashua Telegraph (paywall), but enough:

Nashua, Manchester narcotic units threatened by cut in funds

Oh NO!  Those dreaded city councilors / Mayors / Budget Committees – how DARE they not fund their departments to fit their needs to defend their citizens!  Why those cheap…..oh wait:

NASHUA – The federal government’s decision to freeze payments to local and state law enforcement agencies from its Asset Forfeiture Program could cripple the Nashua and Manchester narcotics units and others statewide at a time when the heroin and opioid epidemic is rampant, their police chiefs said Wednesday.

No Warming Trend in My Corner of NH

PSNH Temp Graph Merrimack NH

My electric bill has the average monthly temperate on it. It actually has last years average monthly temperature and this year’s. I have at least 7 year’s worth of this data available to me.  So I collected it, generated an annual average temperature for each year, and plotted it out above.

Based on this data the 12-month average temperature is not rising.
