Perverse Incentives – How Gov. Meddling Drives up the Cost of Health Care

Healthcare costsThe State claims to be looking out for your health care interests but like everything else they are not. They are building cartels that reward cronies and rent-seekers who then reward their political allies in government.

ObamaCare, Medicaid, and Medicaid expansion are not well-meaning safety-net programs. They are wealth redirection schemes that enrich cartels, and politicians at the expense of regular Americans.

Did you know, for example, that by design, ObamaCare incentivizes increasing health care costs to the benefit of the insurance industry and big hospitals?

YouTube to Ban Firearms Videos Beginning in April

youtube-logo-full_colorBeginning in April YouTube will no longer allow videos that promote websites that sell firearms or accessories or that offer instruction on care or use of firearms.

“We routinely make updates and adjustments to our enforcement guidelines across all of our policies,” a YouTubespokeswoman said in a statement to Bloomberg. “While we’ve long prohibited the sale of firearms, we recently notified creators of updates we will be making around content promoting the sale or manufacture of firearms and their accessories.”

InRange TV is moving to PornHub. Good for them, I guess, but I don’t envision an exodus to PornHub for firearms channels or vlogging devotees to that subject.

Where New Hampshire Democrats Pretend to Give A Crap About Local Control

NH State Sen. David Watters
NH State Sen. David ‘Rising’ Watters

The last time I checked Democrats, most of them at least, viewed School Budget Committees as a barrier to “education.” Their needless nit-picking in defense of taxpayers, unless the board members happen to be outright shills to traditionally progressive School Boards, get in the way of “our children’s needs™.”

So imagine “my surprise” when David ‘Rising‘ Watters is quoted in a piece at NH Watchdog in which he says (about an amendment to SB342), “So what this bill would say is that is if that kind of thing happened, we essentially are contravening or stripping away the authority of the budget committee in a town to have made that kind of adjustment.”

YAWN: “ME TOO” Anti-Gun Politics

Yawning2“Me Too! Not getting enough attention here, everybody look at me! I am about to Virtue Signal. Hey! look at me, everybody! I’m virtue signalling.  Oh, that Concord Monitor. What would we do without them and their constant silly pablum?

“Another citizen…to wit: Cindy White has taken to the opinion pages of the Granite State Capitol-based Fish wrapper to engage in yet another tired rant.  I’m wondering if they don’t have a large metal file cabinet over at the monitor where they maintain platitudes, themes and prior anti-second amendment writings from times past..and they simply recycle them for a new rant each week or each month.

#StopGangRapingOurGirls

Michelle Obama Virtue SignalingRemember when Boko Haram kidnapped 300 school-girls and Michelle Obama was moved to pose for a photo holding a message that has since been shopped innumerable times (google Michelle Obama Boko haram photo) declaring #BringBackOurGirls.

This was virtue signaling at its finest. Hashtag justice.

But appearing to care when you live with the president of the most powerful nation on earth is Potemkin power. There’s no there, there. Not for the girls or their families. Although there is a rumor Mr. Obama called and asked if there were any good golf courses he could be seen on after pretending to talk to a local minister or functionary or something.

Did You Know it Was Illegal In NH to Carry a Firearm on an ATV or Snowmobile?

NH House - state house

From Representative John Burt.

HB1313 passed the full House today.

This bill will bring ATV’s and snowmobiles in line with NH’s Constitutional Carry which was passed last year.

HB1313 will allow you to carry a loaded gun on your ATV or snowmobile. Thank you, everyone, that helped on this bill. Thank you Reps for your yes vote.

Apparently, it is illegal to carry a firearm on these vehicles until this hits the governors desk and he signs it.

NH Dems use Drama to Push ANTI-School Safety Gun Control

womanfainint800

Yesterday, in typical uninformed and ignorant Democrat fashion, Anti-school safety New Hampshire Senate Democrats tried to push a draconian gun control amendment that would have left students more unprotected than they are now all while turning law-abiding citizens into criminals. They did it as if they were a high school drama club rather than adults who have been elected to make laws that govern Granite Staters.

The amendment was brought forth by Senator Martha Hennessey who promptly embarrassed herself on the senate floor, going so far as to say that putting drug free zone signs at schools don’t make drug dealers go to the schools. In other words, she was saying that putting gun free zone signs at schools isn’t going to make criminals target those schools. Those watching were waiting for Hennessey to begin jumping up and down in “Veruca Salt” fashion at any moment.

Tales from the BudComm – an automated budget tracker.

BudgetAs Y’all know, I’ve been trying to better understand the RSAs (NH Statutes, especially RSA 32 and RSA 40 that govern Budgeting and Budget Committees) this past year.  Read the RSAs, talk with a couple of lawyers, talk with Legislators, talk with the Dept of Revenue Administration – I learned that our BudComm was not obeying the RSA that said that we SHALL do year-round budget oversight.  Well, being a programmer, I am the quintessential one – work really heard in order to “be lazy” later on (yeah, that second part never seems to come around but it’s nice to lie to ourselves once in a while).  So, instead of actually going to a meeting (time, my friends, time), I figured that automating it would be better – getting atomic level data at the GL account level, storing it off, creating both snapshots, time sequenced, and analytic results and then just send out the “run of the mill” and “anomaly” reports out automatically.

“It’s a timeless question: where do a school’s responsibilities begin, and where do they end?”

“This is especially relevant when considering where to draw the line between what constitutes parents’ responsibilities and a school’s.”

Wouldn’t it be great if NH schools had this outlook on who is responsible for what, and what the school’s boundaries are?  In the context of that question, I remind you that my soon-to-be daughter in law, while taking her teaching classes, was told by the professor “don’t trust the parents” – a theme I have heard AND seen a lot lately that seem to believe that OUR kids are really theirs via a collectivist outlook of “it takes a village” (so they belong to the village).

Thus, this came as a great relief – a school that knows its place and its mission:

Republicans Push to Protect NH Girls and Women from ‘Female Genital Mutilation’

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4l3R2cxDcI]

Yesterday, the New Hampshire Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on House Bill 1739 (HB 1739), AN ACT prohibiting female genital mutilation.  The hearing was led by testimony from the bill’s main sponsor, Representative Victoria Sullivan (R-Manchester).

Sullivan spoke about the barbaric practice and explained that female genital mutilation (FGM) is not a religious-based practice but that it is cultural based:

According to the World Health Organization, there is no medical reason to have this procedure. It is considered a human rights violation. FGM is not a religious ritual as is commonly thought. In fact, it pre-dates most organized religion. This is a cultural practice that mutilates the genitals of young girls as a way to control their sexuality. This barbaric procedure often results in severe bleeding, lifelong problems urinating, infections, painful intercourse, cysts later in life, complications in childbirth, increased risk of newborn fatalities and death of the mother during delivery.

Sullivan’s goal is to protect young girls from this horrific practice that is both physically and emotionally damaging to them for the rest of their lives.

Progressives Push Single Payer Under Guise of ObamaCare Repeal

obamacareCracked-680x365

The greatest, freest industrial power in history can do a lot better than “ObamaCare.” And while it could never go away fast enough, the nibbling began with add-ons in Tax Reform, and the left isn’t ignoring the threat to their sinister plan to socialize medicine in the United States.

To that end, they are promoting a new proposal that would repeal ObamaCare and replace it with something worse.
