I may not have always agreed with Charles but he was always a treat to listen to. Reasoned, well thought, and erudite; those were the hallmarks of Charles Krauthhammer. He has just informed us all that he only has weeks to live due to cancer:
“I have been uncharacteristically silent these past ten months. I had thought that silence would soon be coming to an end, but I’m afraid I must tell you now that fate has decided on a different course for me.”
The truth is, we are the Big Fish in the tiny G7 pond. Our economy outweighs the rest of them combined.

As reported June 1st, the nation reached a milestone. Black unemployment has hit a record low. Racial disparity in unemployment is also at a historical low. That’s kind of crazy if we really are all a bunch of racists. But even if we were, which we are not, you’d expect that so-called party of People of Color would be screaming it from their solar panel covered rooftops.
Not one member of New Hampshire’s All Gurl Democrat Delegation has written a single word about it since it was announced eight days ago.

NH is open for business. But not like you may think.
When (then) Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was campaigning to “sell” the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) to the American people, she said, “We have to pass the Bill to see what’s in it.” She wasn’t kidding. The ACA contained many unknowns. It was vaguely written and delegated the specifics and interpretations of the law to be defined by unelected bureaucrats AFTER Obamacare became law. The rest is history.
With the ideological Transgender “Bathroom Bill” HB1319, New Hampshire’s “Republican” Governor, Chris Sununu, is modeling his leadership after Democrat Speaker Pelosi.

Intro – I’m making my foray into the blog-sphere as an outlet to discuss issues of interest to me. I believe in the values of our founding fathers and their support of individual freedom. I believe that if Americans wish to have freedom for themselves they must be willing to give freedom to their neighbors. My favorite President is Thomas Jefferson.
I believe in getting to the truth of the matter which is rarely a simple thing. Facts and logic are my friends, lies are my enemies.
Oh, and I guess I need to say that I’m a misfit in the GraniteGrok world as I tend to the liberal side of debates. I hope not to upset anyone….. well, maybe a little.
Picking on Denmark
Steve Mac Donald’s post on Denmark’s arctic studies were a bit misleading and hey, I like Denmark so let’s not pick on them, ok?
Sunday we reported on the case of Robert Frese, arrested by the Exeter Police Department and charged with violating defamations defamation statute.
Exeter Police Chief William Shupe had Robert Frese arrested for an online comment in which he said: “Chief Shupe covered up for a dirty cop.”
Exeter PD dropped the charge after consulting with the State’s Attorney General “which believed prosecutors would be unlikely to win at trial.”
So Governor Chris Sununu just told his Conservative and Faith-Based base to buzz off. You just told those that brung you to the dance that you’re in love with another. OK, buzz off we shall – like a buzzsaw. You asked we’ll deliver.
Good to know, good to know. I’m betting now that Aaron Day is going to start winding his campaign up a few notches. I’m even betting that an R might show up to cause Baby Huey to have to spend time and money during the Primary season on an effort that he ordinarily could have avoided. EASILY avoided.

Cornerstone Action Statement on Governor Chris Sununu’s Signing of Gender-Policy Legislation
The following statement may be attributed to Shannon McGinley, Cornerstone Action Executive Director.
Today, a Republican governor goes down in history as the man who signed the Bathroom Bill, endangering women and girls all across the state and giving unfair advantages to men posing as women in various competitive environments. Sadly, Gov. Chris Sununu’s decision to sign the Bathroom Bill will overshadow some of his otherwise constructive accomplishments and identify him as the man who allowed unwanted, socially harmful ideas into a law that directly opposes government’s constitutional role to serve the “general good.”
Gov. Sununu today has signed away every Granite Stater’s right to privacy in public accommodations. He has signed away protection for equity in school athletics and scholarships. He has bought into a lie that it is somehow bigotry to recognize a person’s natural biological sex, and instead instituted a new era of bigotry against people with common sense.
It’s sad to say but New Hampshire’s ‘Republican’ Governor, Chris Sununu just signed two bills that should be challenged in court. One is a gag order that violates free speech and rights of conscience. The other deprives women of privacy in sex-specific spaces (not to mention a host of other issues). All to appease a sliver of the population that will never vote for him anyway.
Today, Republican Governor Chris Sununu decided to stand with an out-of-state multi-millionaire rather than New Hampshire women when he signed House Bill 1319 (HB 1319), aka the ‘Gender Identity’ bill. This, despite the fact that an overwhelming majority of Granite Staters asked him to veto the legislation after demanding the legislation be killed in the senate in the first place.
It seems Sununu is more interested in out-of-state special interest groups with a lot of money rather than the ramifications this legislation will have to New Hampshire women. This legislation allows any man who claims to be a woman to be considered as such in public policy; therefore, essentially erasing women.
The ramifications of this legislation to women have been documented over and over and over, everything from domestic abuse shelters to rape centers to homeless women’s shelters to women’s and girls’ sports but pay no attention to the man behind the dress, wimminfolk in the Granite State are just going to have keep their mouths shut.
Governor Sununu, apparently, doesn’t like that line in so much. His exact quote is “Winning is everything.” I guess the “the means justify…” something or other. If you don’t have a purpose, it doesn’t matter, I guess. It’s like that old phrase “if you don’t know where yer goin’, it doesn’t matter what road you take.” And right now, the conservative base in NH is waiting to see what road Governor Sununu is going to take.
By the time you read this, Governor Chris Sununu may have already signed HB139 – the latest Bathroom Bill. We at GraniteGrok helped to defeat the last couple. If he does, the act will be complete the process of the Republican Party alienating one of its most active and supportive wings of the Party. After all, why should people donate to or work for a Party which just made it almost a certainty that both speech and faith Constitutional Rights will be rent in two? So why does Gov Chris Sununu want to become the next Colorado Civil Rights Commission in ramming a secular faith down our throats? King Nebuchadnezzar.
So here’s the thought that I, a social conservative, had late last night. Let me know your thoughts:
I’m a bit late on commenting on this – the last meeting was on May 24th. While the entire 2 hour video can be seen here (and if you are concerned with openness and transparency, there’s quite a dollop of it, care of moi), I’ve clipped out the part that had my eyebrows up over my head (it starts up around 40 minutes for a better context).
The heart of what a good Budget Committee does (and is mandated to do) is to go over the budget at the General Ledger line item level (GL Account, or “line item” as it is often referred to). But rookie BudComm member Joe Wernig (a hard Progressive who ran on a platform that NOTHING should be cut from government, especially the School District budget) actually said that he isn’t going to do what he was elected to do; “I don’t want to do that!” (at 2:16, below):
I’m trying to wade through the preliminary report from the Governor’s Council on Diversity and Inclusion. The first thing that struck me was that their first foray into information gathering included “Listening Sessions” in three locations. Durham, Portsmouth, and Claremont.
Yes, the diversity and inclusion council chose to begin their excellent virtue signaling adventure by “listening” to the concerns of citizens in three locations that chose Hillary Clinton in 2016.
The Colorado baker who chose not to be involved in providing services for a ceremony that violated his religious beliefs prevailed in the recent Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission decision at the Supreme Court. The vote was 7-2, and the result was much closer than the score indicates.
How can a 7-2 Supreme Court decision be narrow? If I had a nickel for every social media post along those lines in the past few days, I could cover this blog’s expenses for a good long while. I’m even hearing the question from people who should know better.
It wasn’t the vote that was narrow. It was the decision. The point on which the seven Justices agreed was that the baker hadn’t gotten a fair shake from the Civil Rights Commission. That’s it. That’s enough for now, to be sure, but the narrowness of the decision is fair warning that this was not a First Amendment landmark.
