Working Together, We’ve Made Positive Changes for New Hampshire

by

I’m excited to be running for reelection as state representative for Merrimack County’s District 4 (Canterbury and Loudon). Serving in the legislature is not for everyone, but I love it. The pay in New Hampshire is only $100 a year, but for me, the rewards are intrinsic.

I’m very proud of sponsoring successful legislation that’s touched every community in the state for the better, including returning to an emphasis on teaching (civics) fundamentals, requiring more attention for neglected “gifted” students, promoting unified sports experiences, and much more.

Good friends are priceless, and I’ve made several at the State House. Working together, we’ve made positive changes for New Hampshire. Effective legislators do need to develop good relationships, and I’ve tried to connect with all kinds of folks from every part of New Hampshire: young and old, male and female, conservative and liberal.

While not locked into any ideological template, my perspectives generally reflect the traditional mainstream conservative Republicanism that’s served New Hampshire very well over the many years. And my perspectives are very public, as I’m not shy about writing Op-Eds, columns, BLOG items, social media posts and more—to include radio interviews or zoom sessions. I try to answer every personal message and always return phone calls.

I’m obviously a passionate supporter of free speech and the 1st Amendment—as well as the 2nd Amendment. While I can be outspoken about issues important to me, I also believe in mutual respect, and I try hard to understand other perspectives.  I’ve prime-sponsored and co-sponsored a good number of bipartisan measures. Folks from across the aisle may not love me but they know they can talk with me.

Politics is not beanbag and not everyone plays fair, but I always stress integrity, accountability, and service—as my campaign signs say—while hoping others will similarly take high roads.

This last session I was honored to serve as Vice Chair of the House Committee on State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs as well as on the (very busy!) House Education Committee. These two committees are perfect for me, as a former teacher/professor/coach as well as a retired Marine Corps infantry officer.

One thing I’m not good at is asking for help—i.e dollars. Consequently, I’ve mostly self-funded my campaigns with the attendant flyers, mailers, signs, ads and more—although I’m immensely grateful for the financial support given to me in the past by a generous few.
In a purple district such as mine it takes a lot of work to get elected or reelected. I lost my 2018 reelection bid by 55 votes when the other side spent an immense amount of out-of-state money and did at least six mass mailers throughout my district opposing me.  I was outspent by at least 10-1. While I returned to the State House after a huge win in 2020, indications are that the other side will be going back to their 2018 playbook and will be spending vast amounts of out-of-state money again. With memories of 2018 fresh in my mind, I’ll be working hard but would certainly appreciate any help from folks supportive of my perspectives and positions. Donations could be sent to “Mike Moffett for State Representative” at 144 Green View Drive, Loudon, N.H. 03307.

Or contact me anytime at michael.moffett@leg.state.nh.us.

And I encourage folks to participate in our important election processes on Sept. 13 and again on November 8.

Thanks for reading!
