Coal Powered Car Pride Month?

US Senator Debbie Stabenow (D) has pride. Not ‘cuz it’s June. Well, she’s probably doing that rainbow thing, but we’re talking about EVs. In recent remarks, she gushed about how gas prices meant nothing to her as she tootled along in her electric vehicle.

“I do just have to say, on the issue of gas prices, after waiting for a long time to have enough trips in this country to finally get my electric vehicle, I got it and I drove it from Michigan to here this last weekend and went by every single gas station and it didn’t matter how high it was,” the senator said.

For the record, most electricity generation in the Senator’s home state of Michigan is from coal and natural gas. The buildings on Capitol Hill get their electricity from the 7.5 MW Gas-Fired Capitol Power Plant.

The Debbster is rah-rah about bypassing fossil fuels in her fossil fuel-powered car. Good for her. Not that the price of gas is as much of a concern given her $176,000.00 a year salary, but – to her credit – she appears to be one of the few politicians who didn’t use nearly 50 years in elected office to enrich herself.

Her net worth is one of the lowest on The Hill. But she can afford an expensive vehicle powered by coal and natural gas (maybe some low emissions nuclear if that concerns you). Most Americans cannot nor will they ever be able to drive such a thing as their high pricetag can’t do anything but go up.

And while it may feel like she is saving money, the price of electricity is rising as both progressive policy and demand require.

The price of natural gas, for example, is no less a victim of the Democrat Party and Joe Biden’s “leadership.”

Natural gas prices

It’s June, and the price is almost double that of peak winter demand. In a state where approximately three-quarters of households rely on natural gas as their primary heating source.

What do you think that will look like to voters come January in Michigan, Senator, with you and any other EV users tapping the gas-powered grid so they can brag about not having to pay the price for what Democrats have done to the cost of motor fuel?

She’s not up for re-election until 2025, so everyone will have time to think about that.
