Local Democrats Fracture Party Over Pappas/Hassan Flip-Flop on Immigration

Rep Maria Perez Democrat NH House

A New Hampshire House Democrat almost had a Road to Damascus moment this past week. She scolded Congressman Chris Pappas and US Senator Maggie Hassan for flip-flopping on immigration policy.

Both Pappas and Hassan face tough re-elections this November, and someone inside the Machine said, you’d better move right on border security or else.

And they did.

Rep. Maria Perez accused members of the state’s federal delegation of treating voters of color like “tokens” while supporting Trump-era immigration policies. …  What happened to you? You tokenized us to talk negatively about the previous administration, but now you’re utilizing immigrants to win some votes. Shame on you!” Perez said.

What happened to them?

Not a thing, Rep. Perez. This is who and what your party has become.

Perez echoed complaints from the New Hampshire Democratic Asian American Pacific Islander Caucus which is critical of U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan and Rep. Chris Pappas’ right turn on immigration.

The political power structure you promote never stopped being “slave owners.” It continues to ‘use’ people of color to improve their own lives at their expense. A class of persons that includes the gender warriors, teachers, union workers, and women, to name a few.

And they will say and do whatever seems most likely to keep power.

According to multiple sources, leaders in the state Democratic Party have been pressuring Black and Brown activists to remain silent as Pappas and Hassan push for Trump-era immigration policies like building more of the border wall and continued enforcement of Title 42 authority against would-be migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Not even your state party – leaders you supposedly elected listen to you – care. It’s all a charade. The Big Lie. One of many on the Left. So, good for you, calling them out like that and standing by whatever this is.

Last week, the New Hampshire Democratic Party Latino Caucus resigned from the party en masse over Hassan and Pappas’s new policies. Now, Perez said, it is a non-partisan organization promoting issues important to her community.

“I had to take a hard decision for my caucus to leave the NHDP,” Perez said. “We left the executive committee of the Democratic Party because my caucus doesn’t feel welcomed by the Democratic Party. I believe our community has been tokenized, and it’s time for us to win the respect.”

Better late than never? Not really. Open borders are a non-partisan issue, but you’re on the wrong side. A majority of “Americans” across the spectrum, including every legal immigrant I’ve ever met, oppose the current Democrat position on the border. They want secured borders and legally controlled entry.

You are protesting the opposite.

And they know you are not voting for Republicans, so what exactly have you accomplished?

Headlines are popping up all over the place about this division in your party, and these two Democrat members of Congress looking about as shallow as we’d expect. But not everyone knew that until you spoke up.

Which is why the party wanted it kept quiet.

So, thank you!
