Politically, there are few ideas more potent than the notion that all your problems are caused by other people and their unfairness to you. That notion was the royal road to unbridled power for Hitler, Lenin, Mao, and Pol Pot – which is to say, millions of human beings paid with their lives for believing it.
-Prof Thomas Sowell (Contradictory Notions of Fairness)
And now, we see Trudeau of Canada using it. All those truckers, simple blue-collar working stiffs, have upset his applecart and bruised his “*I* am the Leader!” ego.
They simply wanted to do their job, trucking, and wanted Govt to get out of their way. And now, while six of the Canadian Provinces have given in and said no more mask / vax mandates, Trudeau can’t stand that they are standing up to him. Just like Sununu of “Public Health trumps Everything!” fame, Trudeau went to volume 11 and basically has called them all enemies of the State. HIS problem, according to him, are all these people that refused to take a knee to his edict. THEY are the problem – not himself. So he went full Monty by invoking the Emergency Act, like Sununu did here in NH, and made himself Judge, Jury, and Executioner.
They, on the other hand, see him as a Tyrant. And I agree.
Each of the folks that Sowell listed believed that the end justifies the means, and that means was anything they believed was needed. A limited Government that respected Rights, Liberties, and Freedom?
No. Right now, when the Canadian Govt believes that it can now just take all of someone’s assets simply because their political stance varies from theirs, it is a totalitarian State. Canada has now crossed that Rubicon.
And has the US as well, with those that illegally went into the Capital building on Jan 6? Yes, given the stories about how they are being confined AND contrasting that to how many crimes that are going unpunished (illegal immigration, BLM, Antifa, et al).
