Another well-done DGU (Defensive Gun Use). A law-abiding citizen exercised his right to self-defense when a criminal home invader decided that the homeowner’s stuff should be HIS stuff.
The homeowner thought otherwise. So did the local Sheriff (reformatted, emphasis mine):

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd praised a Lakeland, Florida, man for shooting an alleged intruder Wednesday saying, “He shot him a lot.”
Steven Stillwell, 42, allegedly threw a flower pot through glass doors in hopes of gaining entry into the house, WFLA reported. The Lakeland resident then shot Stillwell “three times.” Stillwell was still alive when deputies arrived and is now hospitalized in stable condition.
Sheriff Judd responded to the incident by saying, “I’m proud of our homeowner for defending himself. It’s called a ‘Castle Doctrine.’ He has the right to protect himself and his home from unknown intruders,” WESH noted.
“I tell folks to get a gun, learn how to use it safely, and load it…You can dial 911 all day long, but when that guy’s coming through the back door on you, we can’t get there in time,” Judd added.
Moms Demand Action would have started a demonstration for “Power Inequity” – the homeowner had a gun but the criminal did not. “Not a fair fight” would have been their rallying cry. “Only Government should have deadly Force!”
They keep forgetting that this country exists because civilians had the equivalent of the Government’s military arms and fought the Government until they cried “Uncle!”
I’m 10 minutes from my town’s single police station (I bet I can do it in less if I HAD to…). However, Gilford is a larger area than its population would suggest and a patrol car could be up to 20-25 minutes away – longer if it was during a snowstorm like last night.
The guy trying to bust into my home isn’t going to be all that polite and willing to wait until it would be a “fair fight” between him and the cops. In fact, there should NEVER be a fair fight – and the homeowner knew that rule about winning fights.
Anyone who is not willing to defend themselves is a fool or a coward or both.
And thus, the Object Lesson for today: Gun Safety is when you can safely, and successfully defend yourself from totalitarians.
