Kamala is absolutely correct that the European colonizers of America “ushered in a wave of devastation for tribal nations — perpetrating violence, stealing land and spreading disease”:

But … so what? That’s the history of the world. More advanced or more aggressive civilizations have since time immemorial conquered less advanced and less aggressive civilizations.
For example, we do not know who the Celts conquered to make the British Isles their home, but they were not the original inhabitants. Many of these Celts were later conquered by the Roman Empire. And then when the Romans left in 410, the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes moved in and conquered much of the land.
And they were in turn conquered, for a time, by the Vikings in the early 9th century. And then in 1066 William the Conqueror of Normandy crossed the channel … you know, that Battle of Hastings thing. Take a look at a map of Europe at the beginning of each century if you don’t believe that throughout history more advanced and more aggressive civilizations have been conquering less advanced and less aggressive civilizations.
This is also the case for the New World. The Aztec Empire that Spain conquered in the early 16th century was of relatively recent vintage. The Aztecs migrated to the area in the 13th century and reached empire status in the 15th century by conquering the peoples already living around Tenochtitlan. And you may have heard about this curious habit the Aztecs had of using these subjugated peoples for human sacrifice. And while Cortes was a bonafide bad-ass, he never would have been able to conquer the Aztecs if not for the support of many of the peoples the Aztecs had conquered.
And the Comanches brutally conquered the lands of the Pawnees, the Osages, the Blackfeet, the Kiowas, the Tonkawas, and the Apaches. The Comanches were so brutal to the Apaches that the Apaches begged the Spanish for protection.
I could go on and on and on and on and on … but I trust I have made my point. Kamala is either a historical ignoramus or she is cherry-picking history.
Either way, she should just STFU.
