If you think the government knows best you are delusional and here is a great reason why. It is the promulgation of “Safetyism.” That no one should ever suffer “harm” under any condition. In other words, the presumption that the state can eliminate Life’s risks.
The government has distorted another system that was working and now it doesn’t, can’t, or won’t because of government.

An upstate New York hospital said it would soon pause the delivery of babies due to maternity unit workers quitting their jobs because of the COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
On Aug. 16, then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the state was implementing a vaccine mandate for all health care workers, including staff at hospitals and long-term care facilities, nursing homes, adult care, and other congregate care settings. Cuomo’s order required all health care workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by Sept. 27. However, some health care workers are refusing to receive the coronavirus vaccine, which has caused hospitals to be short-staffed. At the Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville, New York, nearly half of the maternity ward employees at the hospital have resigned over the mandate or are considering not to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Left keeps thinking that it can just decree by “diktat” some prohibition and that people will meekly go along with it.
We are now getting to the stage of this Safetyism epoch that people are starting to say “fine, we’ll play by your rules – but you won’t like it” and we ordinary little people will suffer from those diktats.
Meanwhile, people like Cuomo and Biden are patting themselves on the back with the ever-present “what a SMAHT boy am I?” hubris.
But all they are proving is that the Great Mind Fallacy is still in play, and playing well with its kissing cousin, the Law of Unintended Consequences. In the name of “protecting” patients, they have put “the most vulnerable amongst us” at both ends of life’s spectrum at risk.
Again, Govt chooses one set of folks, patients in general, over those that they know have to be present: the nurses, the doctors, and all of the other medical staff. And yet, without the latter, the former are put at GREATER risk.
You would have thought, given the massive number of jobs available and potential workers taking a knee, that someone would have pointed out the obvious problem (e.g., you poke a system “here” and you get an adverse reaction “there” in another part of the system. It takes the mind of the Stupid not to see the folly of disturbing such a complicated system.
Yet, stupnagels seem to be drawn to positions of Power because they actually believe their own PR and think they are omniscient. Real-life, however, shows them to be the buffoons they really are.
