Marty Walsh is Biden’s nominee for labor secretary. He is dismissing concerns about job losses. It doesn’t bother him at all becasue he knows they are the results of the president’s executive actions and because he has a job?
Walsh says the workers left without jobs by environmental regulations will have to transfer their skills to the “new economy.” He does not acknowledge the lack of overlap between the skill sets. Probably none of his kids are going to lose their jobs.
Nor does he care about the extended timeline necessary to transform the workforce. The family disruption won’t bother him.
Walsh says, “That pipe fitter will have opportunities in that economy, that ironworker will have opportunities in that economy. … All of those different traits and skills that people have in this country will have great opportunity in this new economy…”
Now that’s empathy for people unnecessarily and intentionally thrown out of work by discretionary government action.
100% clean energy by 2050 or bust
Biden says he hopes to achieve a 100% clean-energy economy by 2050. It is looking more likely he will achieve 100% unemployment. But hey, they are only jobs, right? Not people.
We know the economic transformation cannot occur quickly enough to help blue-collar workers. These people are being hurt by the immediate cessation of fossil fuel use and production.
Not only are their jobs going away but the cost of living is kicking up, taxes are going up. Yup, it’s all fun, right Marty?
Senator Cassidy asked Walsh, “Is there a sense of when the first of those jobs will come out, knowing that the money hasn’t even been appropriated yet, and it’s got to filter its way through the system, and there have to be bids made? … I think it’s reasonable to say it will be quite some time, but the guy’s got a mortgage payment next month…”
Predictably Walsh touts government-backed job training programs.
He could not even take the time to explain why it was necessary to fire first and transition later. The people-cost is absolutely lost on this administration. T
Compounding insult with injury
Walsh also supports the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act. If enacted, it will radically reorganize the labor force. It will limit the use of independent contractors. It mandates employees pay union fees even if they do not want to join the union.
Independent contractors make up approximately 10% of the U.S. workforce. Socialists introduced the act Thursday. Clearly, the PRO Act threatens to weaken right-to-work laws.
They currently exist in 27 states and this could be devastating for the economic future of this nation and those employees within those states. It is a bad decision and a poor start for this administration.
The Biden administration wants to be green. If you happen to starve because of their misguided policies, as far as they are concerned, it sucks to be you. Don’t say you did not hear this before the election. You knew and you did it anyway. You did it to yourself.
