U.S. defense officials say they are worried about an insider attack. Apparently, they fear a threat from National Guard service members. They are okay to carry arms and to defend America but not in securing Biden’s inauguration, really?
This led to the FBI vetting all of the 25,000 National Guard troops coming to D.C. What I want to know is: Why does anyone trust the FBI? They surveil the president with intent to entrap… but trust?
The massive undertaking reflects the level of paranoia gripping D.C. Congress has an approval rating of 8%. They should worry. If you question the integrity of the Guard why use them? It is an expensive, irrational action. This whole dog and pony show is to create a narrative and political talking points.
Potential or imaginary threats … the costs are real either way
Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told A.P. Sunday “officials” are conscious of the potential threat. What officials? Army, DoD, bureaucrats, or elected officials? And exactly what kind and level of threat? The Army Secretary says he has seen no evidence of any threats. The vetting also isn’t flagging any issues that he is aware of.
McCarthy said military leaders went through an exhaustive, three-hour security drill in preparation for Wednesday’s inauguration. He said Guard members are getting training on how to identify potential insider threats. It sure is great we are paying for 25,000 troops to travel to D.C. to check each other for threats… It would cost a lot less if they stayed home and checked each other for threats.
About 25,000 members of the National Guard are arriving in D.C. from across the country. That’s two and a half times the number for previous inaugurals or more. The military routinely reviews service members for extremist connections. The FBI screening is in addition to any previous monitoring.
Insiders …
The process began as the first Guard troops began deploying to D.C. more than a week ago. They said the process is to be complete by Wednesday. Several officials were willing to discuss military planning on condition of anonymity. It seems telling the enemy your plans is okay, as long as no one knows it was you disclosing the plan. That’s Biden security 101.
In a situation like this one, FBI vetting involves running peoples’ names through databases and watchlists. They are looking for involvement in prior investigations or terrorism related concerns. Insider threats have been a persistent law enforcement priority since Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
In most cases, the threats are from homegrown insurgents with radicalization by terror groups. The paranoia and fear surrounding Biden’s inauguration are getting fuel from the media, D.C. bureaucracy, and Leftist politicians.
According to McCarthy a couple of current active-duty or National Guard members have been arrested in connection with the Capitol assault. But then again so have some members of the Capitol Police. Gen. Daniel R. Hokanson is the chief of the National Guard Bureau. He has been meeting with Guard troops as they arrive in D.C. He said he believes there are good processes in place to identify any potential threats.
We all trust the FBI… right?
The Secret Service is in charge of event security. There is a wide variety of military and law enforcement personnel involved. They include: the National Guard, the FBI, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, U.S. Capitol Police and U.S. Park Police. Commanders went over the city’s security lockdown, with McCarthy and other. It is unclear why singling out the National Guard for special scrutiny is necessary.
Hokanson said he believes his troops have adequate equipment and preparation. They are rehearsing as much as they can to be prepared for any contingency. The major security concerns are: an attack by armed groups of individuals and planted explosives.
McCarthy said intelligence reports suggest groups are organizing armed rallies. The bulk of the Guard members carry weapons. McCarthy said units are going through repeated drills to practice when and how to use force. Their instruction includes how to work quickly with law enforcement partners. Law enforcement officers will make any arrests. This sounds like an expensive unnecessary cluster. Joe campaigned from his basement. Let him take the oath in his basement.
