Whereupon Maryland Gov Larry Hogan sounded like Bruce

This Republican elected official shows TOTALLY that he has no idea what his State’s or the US Constitution really is for. This is a bit old (from just before Thanksgiving) but forgive me – I have a few hundred open tabs at anyone time…

Sidenote: lovely thing having 64GB RAM – it solved my previous problem of only being able to keep a 100 or so open tabs with my older laptop but perhaps too much to be able to remember where I put what I thought (at the time) was an important thing to touch upon??

…and I just ran across this in paring down what I had. So here is an elected official that is just SO disappointed that his subjects refuses to listen to him. It’s almost as if he no longer remembers who works for whom?

During the press briefing, Hogan even bizarrely compared people who were opposed to mask mandates to people who drive drunk or refuse to wear a seatbelt:

“It’s sort of like saying I have a constitutional right to drive drunk. I have a constitutional right to not wear a seat belt, or to yell fire in a crowded movie theater, or to not follow the speed limit,” Gov. Hogan said.

Said no one ever (that I know of). Three stupidities in row and the fourth is that while it isn’t a Constitutional Right, we here in NH have not yet caved to the Feds in being bribed (via “highway funding” into forcing adults to buckle up. Why should Govt do that (other than from a sense of Moral Superiority)? Risk vs consequences – not wearing a seat belt may end up hurting you or someone else in the car and THAT is on the driver / owner of the car. Period.

He asked what part did people not understand, citing the large quantities of people who have already died from the coronavirus. “There’s no constitutional right to walk around without a mask,” Gov. Hogan said. “Wear the mask.”

Of course, he has forgotten WHY the Constitution and the Bill of Rights exist: to restrain what Government can or cannot do. It doesn’t limit We the People from anything from a Constitutional aspect when the simple plain text is read and taken as is. Hogan sounds like all the other idiots that have been elected that take the oath of office which almost always includes “to protect and defend the Constitution” – clueless. Making such strawman arguments just dismiss what his actual point is – which was wrong to begin with.

Once again we return to South Dakota Gov Kristi Noem who had it right – inform her citizens and they have the freedom to make their own decisions.

What is being forgotten is that America started off as a permissionless Society – we no longer had to ask the King, the aristocracy and other royals, or the clerisy, for permission to do something. We just did it. And that that was the norm for the better of a hundred years. Then Progressivism started up and with their notions of a “societal machine”, the process began in which our Permissionless Society has become, once again, a “Daddy Govt; may I”?  I maintain that we are now a Permission based Society in which we must have the buy in from some level of govt in order to do anything.

It make Govt too powerful and makes us little better than children. Become part of Govt and you suddenly know everything – the rest of us know nothing. This is part of the evilness of Socialism.

I think that this from comedian Rob Schneider sums it up well the obtuseness of our Government relative to what WE think is important:

Isn’t that the truth? IF we are so severely limited in what makes Life, well, Life, what is the purpose of bothering?  Live Free or Die pretty much covers it, right? If we are not Free to seek our own Happiness, especially over this extended period of time, why not go out slinging? Go big or go home? For if they are just going to move us from home detention to an actual jail, what’s the difference? The purpose of jail is to remove your liberties from you because you are guilty of a crime. What crimes have the healthy committed?

But that’s what Hogan is trying to turn on its head – that we are innocent until proven guilty.

Why are we putting up with this?

UPDATE:  I KNEW I had this somewhere – “This is a dangerous game, where government’s and citizens’ roles are reversed.”

Enter the “pandemic,” where state officials openly reject the Constitution and make government the ruling authority.  We’ve allowed their tyranny, and now we’re trapped in a sick game of Governor May I” where we need the governor’s permission for every move we make.

Restaurants

Governor: You may take two baby steps.  Open your business at 50% capacity.

Citizens: Governor, may I?

Governor: Yes, you may.

The People

Governor: You may take three baby steps.  Gather in small groups; wear masks everywhere, even outdoors; and stay six feet apart at all times.

Citizens: Governor, may I?

Governor: Yes, you may.

This is a dangerous game, where government’s and citizens’ roles are reversed.  The governor issues orders, and the people ask permission to carry out those orders.  If they forget or neglect to get permission, they’re hit with ridiculous fines or even jail.

Why does one man or woman have absolute authority over every citizen in the state?  Our lack of understanding of our constitutional rights has tipped the balance of power to government, including the Judiciary.
