So, for example, Andrew Manuse, in a piece on this blog writes:
Didn’t we just elect a majority-GOP legislature? With the power AS I DISCUSSED HERE to end the COVID state-of-emergency altogether.
Anyone who has paid any attention to New Hampshire politics knows the answer is: NO; we elected a Sununican, as opposed to a Republican majority.
A Sununican is a Rep or Senator or Executive Councilor or activist who will tell you, if you suggest the Legislature end the COVID state-of-emergency or at least curtail Sununu’s mask-madness, something to the effect of:
Are you kidding me? We can’t undermine the Governor like that! I was elected to support Sununu, not to cut his legs out. Do you want an income tax? That’s it; isn’t it; you actually want an income tax. Do you not understand the press will crucify us if we end the mask-mandate. That mask-mandate is the only thing standing between us and an income tax. Do you want to hand Maggie Hassan a second term? We can’t hand Hassan an issue like that. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
In other words, a Sununican is someone who more resembles a member of a cult … in this case, the cult of Chris Sununu … than a member of a political-party.
To be clear, I don’t think that every GOP Rep is a Sununican. But I am pretty sure that there are enough of them to join with the Democrats to maintain Sununu’s mask-madness … no matter how many studies, how much data they are shown that demonstrates that masks do NOT work.
