Dems Have Lost 8 Seats in US House, Expect to Lose More

Pelosi - Leftism

Democrats flipped a few seats in the US House, including one they’ve not held in 25 years, but the losses erase these gains. According to Politico, the NYT shows Republicans flipping 8 seats so far with nearly a dozen more likely.

Some two dozen battleground races remain uncalled, and the final results may not be known for weeks. But at least two more Democrats are likely to fall: Reps. Max Rose and Anthony Brindisi in New York, who trail their opponents by tens of thousands of votes. And the party is also worried about ceding an open southeast district in Iowa and about the fate of Rep. Ben McAdams (D-Utah).

In California, there’s a real chance Democrats could lose three more members — Reps. Gil Cisneros, T.J. Cox and Harley Rouda — because the remaining mail-in ballots have not skewed against their GOP challengers as they did in the 2018 midterms.

The Dems won’t experience a total washout, their majority in the chamber appears secure, but it will be an incredibly thin majority. Nothing like they’d hoped and certainly not to Nancy Pelosi’s advantage.

She is running for Speaker again.

With only a handful of Democrats giving her caucus the edge, a movement to oust her from the top spot seems possible. There have been, as always, rumblings about a rebellion against her leadership.

Here’s an idea. She should let the House members vote by mail.
