Biden Transition … A Slide Toward Regulatory Hell

by

Should Joe Biden actually take control the U.S. economy is going to change direction. A Biden Administration will attempt to unleash the executive branch agencies. The agencies themselves expect Biden will be hands-off. The result will be a regulatory free for all.

The agencies have been largely constrained under Trump.

We should expect an orgy of regulatory excess if Biden takes over. The Constitution is silent on how the succession of executive administrations is to occur. A presidential term lasts four years. It begins and ends precisely at noon on January 20 of the year following the November election. That is where the certainty ends.

The country survives even very unfriendly transitions. History shows us life goes on. This transition is shaping up as an unfriendly takeover. More important than what happens before January 20 is what happens after that date.

How will Biden exercise his power as “employer-in-chief?”

It is through the appointment process that the incoming president makes his first profound and lasting impact on public policy. It is the nominations to the high profile positions that garner public attention. But it is the appointments to jobs that do not require the “advice and consent” of the Senate where a new president really makes his mark.

Biden has nearly five decades as a swamp critter. That is a lot of IOU’s will pay rich dividends. This will be the opposite of Trump, who barged into office promising to “drain the swamp.” Biden will be looking to “fill the swamp.” He will have bureaucratic allies in every department, agency, and office.

Trump did replace many top-level, bureaucracy loving officials in key departments. He put in individuals who share his disdain for the Nanny State. Trump’s dislike for the Washington “Establishment” extended to advice from knowledgeable, well-intentioned swamp dwellers from the Republican Party.

The Trump administration suffered a measure of underperformance from failure to fill those second and third-tier positions.  They are crucial to ensuring the policy directives of the top are actually implemented. These offices are where the policy rubber meets the road.

The former vice president loves bureaucrats. They in turn love him. His administration, should he come to power, will be tireless in reversing Trump’s regulatory policies. The Biden administration can be expected to ferret out and remove Trump holdovers from office.

Biden and his handlers are undercutting the news that a COVID vaccine has been developed. The media is silent about the fact it should be ready for distribution before the end of next month. This is at the most generous thing which can be said of this disgraceful display of hatred.

But we know the Leftists hate not just for President Trump but the market-based process he favors. It is the market that has given the citizens of America a defense against the Coronavirus. It is the market that has done so in record time. Yet the media deem the fact as not worthy of note. We need to understand what this means. We will be paying through the nose for the resurgence of the Nanny State. Here’s looking forward to regulatory Hell.
