Agreeing with Biden: If We Elect Joe, ‘No Miracle is Coming’

Joe Biden Hope N Change

Joe Biden has an uninspiring assessment of America’s current situation. He has no hope. He has no vision. But at least if we elect him he promises to double our taxes.

He told us in the nomination acceptance speech “… No miracle is coming.” It sure seems like, if we were to elect Joe, based on his platform, he is correct. I never thought I would find myself agreeing with Biden… but here we are together in our assessment of what a Biden administration means.

As an American, it’s hard NOT to believe in miracles. America is the last, best hope of the world. Only in America can all the people feel secure in their freedom to pursue their dream… where ever it may lead. Miracles exist.

The greatest assembly of men at any time or any place in history came together here. They wrote the U.S. Constitution. It is the most influential document in history, outside of the Bible. That is a miracle.

Miracles happen early and often in America and for Americans. The polio vaccine was a miracle. D-Day was a miracle. The inventions of the Wright brothers, Thomas Edison and Henry Ford were world-changing miracles.

Freeing people to dream in a secure nation… Allowing the free exchange of ideas… Promoting freedom of expression, religious practice the right to own things; those are miracles. They motivate people to create. Creation generates efficiency, beauty, wealth, and a higher standard of living.

Miracles

Remember the U.S. hockey team in Lake Placid? They couldn’t possibly beat the Russians. Russia was the greatest team in the world. Then they did it. The announcer summed up the event in the final ticks on the clock: “Do you believe in miracles?

The New York Mets did in 1969. Steve Jobs, a college dropout, started Apple Computer Inc. in a garage, and it is now a $2 trillion company. That is a miracle. The ability of average Americans to come together as a nation has enabled her to prevail over adversity. Our ability to achieve extraordinary things is in our DNA.

The coming A – B Choice

RFK once said, “Some men see things as they are and ask, ‘Why?’ I dream things that never were and ask, ‘Why not?'” Before us today is a choice. It is a simple A or B choice. Before us are Joe Biden or Donald Trump.

In less than two months we will choose. Who do we want at the helm of our ship of state? We are approaching the economic battle of our lives. Who do we want at the helm of the good ship America? Who is most able to steer us through the economic storm? Our view from the bottom is sometimes different than that from the top.

We are polarized, angry, and anxious. We are killing each other in the streets. Millions of young people are down on America. They are contemptuous of our past role in the world.

Yet they ignore most of history and make their assessment on cherry-picked facts. American impact on the world has been obviously and overwhelmingly positive. Yet, they reject even the core idea of American exceptionalism.

We are the one nation in the world strong enough to acknowledge our flaws. America is not perfect. It is simply better than everything that came before or since its founding. We are an aspirational people who strive to make things better.

Choose a direction… Choose a leader

Americans want more and better for ourselves, our families, our communities, the nation as a whole, and the world at large. Yes, we want more… for everyone.  But we understand everyone cannot have everything all of the time. Fortunately, most of us don’t want that anyway. We just aren’t that envious or greedy.

It is time for us to come together in a patriotic celebration of our past. Our combined goodness and our compassion merit that. Three hundred million people can make positive changes. Tearing things down will not do it but building up and contributing to positive outcomes will. The view from the bottom is the view of those who do the work and pay the bills.

Burning things down in fits of rage is wrong and harmful to our fellow Americans. We cannot do such things and claim they are for some greater common good. Anger and frustration come to each of us from time to time. We know acting out makes life poorer and harder. It does not improve anything. We have a choice to make. Which side are you on?
