Then What Do You Do? Well, if You Are a Democrat You Raise Taxes

Gas pump old style retro

The thinking goes that if you tax something, you’ll get less of it. But that’s not why Democrat’s tax things. Sure, they say that, like with smoking, but that’s a lie. What they want is your money and more of it.

Acts of government force that reduce those revenue streams mean only one thing. They must raise the tax.

We’ve had this battle in New Hampshire with things like tobacco taxes. The stated goal is to wipe out smoking, but then you erase the revenue stream. If that did indeed happen, Democrats would be frantic about replacing it because their addiction to spending is greater than any other. Where will we get funding to help displaced left-handed albino lesbians in crisis?

This is no less true in New Jersey.

The Garden State, like many others, locked people down and arbitrarily defined who could work or be open for business and when. The result was a significant decrease in driving. Gasoline sales plummeted as did the taxes collected on its sale.

Citizens did what New Jersey demanded, and now New Jersey is returning the favor. They are raising gas taxes.

The State Treasury says they have to increase the tax because people are driving less during the pandemic. They say consumption of gasoline declined by nearly 39% between March and May at the height of the state’s lockdown orders. The increase is going into effect on Oct. 1. The additional revenue will go toward paying for road construction projects.

The levy adds another 9.3 cents per gallon, hiking to the gas tax total to 50.3 cents per gallon beginning October 1st. The tax on diesel is rising as well to 57.7 cents per gallon.

New Jersey is also one of those Transportation Climate Initiative scam states. The so-called move to reduce emissions by raising gas taxes. Taxes that will then go (cough-cough) to infrastructure improvements. That would add another 9-12 cents per gallon on average. Enough to drive more people out of the state.

Then what do you do? Well, if you are a Democrat you raise taxes.
