Filling the Empty SCOTUS Seat Adds Fuel to the Fire

by

Filling the empty SCOTUS seat is going to be political. Reports are some Republicans close to the White House think Trump may nominate a woman. Maybe… Yes, that comes to mind… if you are an advocate of identity politics.

But what if you are concerned with finding the best candidate? Or what if you wanted the best advocate for a particular ideology? Has either of those things ever happened?

Maybe there’s a back spin political angle to choosing a counterweight of sorts. But does anyone equate Biden’s choice of Kamala Harris to a SCOTUS nomination? I don’t think so. And neither will Trump. Whether or not the nominee is female, sex, will not be the basis for the selection. Just look at his list of potential candidates.

Mitch McConnell is pledging to quickly bring to a vote whomever Trump nominates. He faces potential division within his own ranks. Nothing new there. This will include senators Romney, Murkowski, Collins and Gardner. Collins and Gardner are in reelection races this fall.

We can expect near term presidential race churn. Activists on both sides will be re-energized. What do you think? Will huge protests around the Capitol and around the country be ignited? Are you ready to riot in the streets over a SCOTUS seat? Will this inflame that kind of vigorous energy? Only BLM, Antifa, Anarchists and Islamists will respond.

Biden, the pander bear, is pledging to appoint the first Black woman to the Supreme Court. Can you say sexual discrimination? Joe, can you say racist? It is unbelievable how demeaning this is? What do you think Clarence Thomas would say about the Biden approach?

Politics, name calling and history

Democrats, as expected do not like McConnell’s pledge to move forward. Power politics only works for them when it works to their advantage. It’s pretty much a case of sauce for the goose and sauce for the gander. It seems they don’t remember Harry Reid.

Some Democrats lament the Supreme Court vacancy could shift attention away from the virus. The virus has been a central element of the Harris-Biden’s campaign. It does not seem much of anyone cares… but that’s their “winning strategy”. Well… that and hiding in the basement doing zoom meetings.

In 2016 Trump took the step of releasing a list of Supreme Court picks before his election. This became a unifying point for skeptical conservatives. It is certainly true the high-profile debate over Brett Kavanaugh was impactful politically. It seems to help the Senate remain in GOP control.

The president is building the same type of energy his 2016 campaign had. He has in place another list of potential Supreme Court nominees. Prescience? Its release came just this week. Is the political environment is already overheated?

There are partisan divides over everything. It does not seem to matter what it is these days. Everything is political. From wearing a mask to addressing climate change and Ginsburg’s death will not change that. Filling the empty SCOTUS seat is going to be political.

It’s pretty ugly out there and maybe it will come to a head. Buckle up your chin strap. Are you ready? Which side are you on?
