Public school graduates – How Do You Spell GRADUATION?

Schoolhouse3

Some recent NH public school students have posted “I Did It!” signs in their yards congratulating themselves for graduating high school. That is fine. Since we are supporting NH public education with this new, fashionable, public announcement, I have another suggestion. See if you think this is a good idea.

Have a state statute that requires each high school graduate to write a 50 or less word letter, in their own hand, not typed, to be posted in the same local paper the school uses for announcements.

All the hand-written letter has to say is “Thank you” to the NH taxpayers who provided them with free education.” That should be simple enough.

Then for the next several weeks, the papers have some interesting content – not just photos of caps and gowns.

One photocopy of the hand-written letter from each student until the entire class has completed this simple task will do. No, parents can’t write the letter for the student.

And the “thank you” can be sarcastic, creative, somber, whatever. Feel free to write what you feel or what your peers want you to write. No problem.

All the public needs to see is what they paid for.

That should be simple enough and not take a superintendent with a ten-person staff.

Any takers?
