Let’s Elect Principled Conservatives, Not Democrat-Donors

One of the most hotly contested Republican primaries for September promises to be the race for Executive Council District 5. And although the Executive Council is relatively obscure to most New Hampshire voters, it is, in fact, one of the more powerful elected bodies in the state.

The Council is responsible for approving the appointment of public officials such as judges and commissioners, as well as reviewing and approving all state contracts that exceed $10,000.  Executive Councilors also get a direct say in the spending of all state budgeted funds, having to approve each monthly warrant put forth by the Governor for appropriation.

The Executive Council has only five members, so a single vote can constitute the difference between a good decision (such as the approval of a high-performing business executive to be the Commissioner of Education) and a bad one (such as the approval of retroactive payments of taxpayer funds to Planned Parenthood for “‘services” already performed, or rejecting a highly qualified nominee to the State Supreme Court).

Even if you do not live in Executive Council District 5, every voter in the state has a stake in the outcome of that race. Dave Wheeler has previously held that position and has a strong conservative record as Executive Councilor.

Dave has led the fight to defund Planned Parenthood, has opposed reckless spending, and has only voted to approve judges and justices who have consistently demonstrated their fidelity to constitutional principles.

Wheeler’s GOP opponent is lobbyist Bob Clegg, a former State Senator, and State Representative.

As one of the two partners in a company that he founded in 2008 and currently runs called Legislative Solutions, Bob Clegg has donated to more than a few Democrats over the years; and to the PACs that fund all Democrats in the state legislature.

Through the lobbying firm that he founded, Clegg has donated to State Senator Lou D’Allesandro, whose record includes opposition to “born alive“ legislation and opposition to legislation that would have prevented children from being reunited with parents who had been convicted of sexual crimes against children.

Clegg has donated to Democrat House Speaker Steve Shurtleff, who has pushed the most radical House agenda in New Hampshire’s history this term.

Clegg has given to the NH Senate Democratic Caucus and the Committee to Elect House Democrats, whose sole purpose is to support Democrat candidates for office.

The late State Senator Scott McGilvray, who also served as the President of the NH NEA (the National Education Association, i.e., the teacher’s union), also received a contribution from Clegg.  McGilvray and the NEA took every opportunity to oppose Commissioner Edelblut, who was confirmed with Wheeler’s vote.

Clegg has donated to Democrat State Senator Martha Fuller Clark, to indicted domestic abuser Democrat State Senator Jeff Woodburn, to Democrat State Senate Majority Leader Dan Feltes, who is currently running for Governor, to Senate President Donna Soucy, a Democrat, to Dem State Senator Jon Morgan, to Dem State Senator Jay Kahn, and Dem State Senator Bette Lasky.  (For details, scroll down to the PDF embedded at the bottom of this post. Clegg, in his lobbyist capacity, has also pushed for biomass subsidies. This “clean energy” subsidy would cost New Hampshire ratepayers even more on their electric bill, and New Hampshire is already one of the most expensive states for electric costs.

Expanded Medicaid is another left-wing item Clegg lobbied for in New Hampshire, which is now law, at the expense of taxpayers everywhere.

Bob Clegg has given thousands of dollars to Democrats over the years.

The Republican voters of District 5 can, and should, do better.  I am endorsing Dave Wheeler – the proven conservative – for Executive Council in District 5.  (NOTE: This is a personal endorsement and in no way represents the opinion of any other group or organization with which I may be associated.)

If you live in one of the following towns, you are in Executive Council District 5.  If you want a principled conservative, cast your vote for Dave Wheeler on September 8th.

Amherst, Antrim, Bennington, Brookline, Deering, Dunbarton, Fitzwilliam, Francestown, Greenfield, Greenville, Hillsborough, Hollis, Hudson, Jaffrey, Litchfield, Lyndeborough, Mason, Merrimack, Milford, Mont Vernon, Nashua, New Boston, New Ipswich, Peterborough, Richmond, Rindge, Sharon, Swanzey, Temple, Troy, Weare, Wilton, or Windsor.
