We Aren’t a Nation of Kneelers

The Puritans wouldn’t even kneel to God. When freed slaves knelt as Abraham Lincoln passed by, he told them, “Don’t kneel to me; that is not right. You must kneel to God only, and thank him for the liberty you will hereafter enjoy.”

So it was a shock to see two on-duty police officers kneeling at a Hampton Beach rally organized by liberal advocacy group Black Lives Matter, which exploits tragedies to push a radical agenda.

How radical is the BLM platform? Well, they don’t have any use for the police. Visit the BLM site and you’ll find a petition to defund the police because they’re guilty of systemic racism.

“We demand acknowledgment and accountability for the devaluation and dehumanization of Black life at the hands of the police . . .   for Black people, law enforcement doesn’t protect or save our lives. They often threaten and take them.”

Although as recently as 2008, President Barack Obama recognized the lack of fathers in children’s lives as a major cause of violence and poverty in African-American communities, and today 72% of black children are growing up without their fathers, BLM seems eager to dismantle whatever’s left of the family.

“We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable,” their site states.

“We dismantle the patriarchal practice that requires mothers to work “double shifts” so that they can mother in private even as they participate in public justice work.”

The BLM movement can’t entertain the idea that removing fathers from households might have resulted in women working longer hours.

For BLM, the answer to every discrepancy in wealth, education, or crime is institutional racism, because systemic problems demand radical solutions. “We seek radical transformation, not reactionary reform,” as one organize said about their policy demands.  BLM’s agenda calls for reparations, a minimum living income, socialized medicine, and the redistribution of wealth, goals that can only be accomplished through tremendous state coercion in the name of social justice.

I doubt these officers knew they were promoting a radical left organization funded by wealthy liberals when they knelt. I assume they thought they were only sharing the grief of those commemorating the brutal death of George Floyd, but that’s where professionalism comes into play: When police officers are off duty, they can kneel to whatever political movement they wish, but they have no business engaging in political advocacy while they’re on the clock.
