DISQUS Doodlings – “Sigh, now BOTH Popular Science and Popular Mechanics are Dead to Me” – Part 3: Bruce Currie, textbook stereotypical Progressive scold

Summary: so Bruce wants us to not only be political ALL the time, we ALWAYS have to be mindful and accept HIS version of history and Morality. He refuses to accept that we have other ideas and worldviews – we’re wrong and we have to sit still like his students have and gurgle out what he’s teaching us. There is no recognition of the “Leave Us Alone Coalition”. This is “an example of that” post”

OK, this was not quite what I expected when I blogged that I was disappointed that Popular Mechanics has turned to the same kind of “wokeness” (how to destroy public property, statues, by various means simply because Woke people innately have that privilege to so simply because their emotions have become inflamed for some wokeness reason) that Popular Science magazine morphed into a few years ago. I like the articles that described things – how they worked, what was the science, effort and skill in doing things. Just plain intellectually fun to read. You know – just INTERESTING. Places, at least for a while, I could escape the politics that consumes a lot of my time in writing about it. You know, a form of escapism from everyday life where politics could just be set aside for even just a few minutes. Well, with their editorial change to the Left, my change is to not read them anymore.

Now, Bruce Currie is our resident comment Progressive. He has also morphed from being just a liberal that inhabiting these parts but generally there to create a comment stream. Lately, however, as a new found and self-proclaimed Berni-Bro, he’s gone full Socialist and also turned into a Progressive Karen. With him, it is now politics all the time with what I believe to be politics only through the double lenses of Racism and Class warfare. Those seem to be his only viewports of what is going on in the world and how others NOT like him are driven to be who we are. In this case, he just couldn’t accept that I didn’t want to do “non-politics”. At all. So he decided that his superior intellect and worldview MUST be on full display – I must have been lying.

Progressives truly believe that they are Morally Superior to the rest of us “Deplorables” (along with a long list of other rather demeaning taunts and smears that they truly believe we are); they have “evolved” and “progressing” – and like the many Karens that are popping up all over, have no problem in hectoring the rest of us. So, I decided to “elevate” his inability to just accept that sometimes on the Right, we don’t need politics to drive our souls. What they refuse to accept is that sometimes, we just want to be left alone and leave the politics of something alone as well. So, here is a SPLENDID display of such Progressive behavior.

Just to warn you – his first volley is straight out of the “Zinnification of American History”.

Bruce Currie
“Wokness.” Nice attempt to reduce the protests to Idpol. There is that element, but the bottom line is these statues should all have been relegated to the museum of real American history long ago. They have no place in the public square; their intent was to demean and intimidate. The misread and rewrite of history that was courtesy of the Daughters of the Confederacy has been allowed to perpetuate itself up to the present day. “Wave that flag, Johnny Reb!” The war was fought over slavery, NOT states’ rights or “freedom”.

Right – right to being an apologist for bad and destructive behavior and expresses, to a T, the mindset of the Progressives right now:

I DON’T LIKE IT so I get to destroy it. There is no discussion – just take it down. And because I am Morally Superior, there is no argument that any of the rest of you can muster that is even worthwhile to contemplate.  And when I don’t like History that suits my ideology, even that 140 years ago, I get to erase it.

Imagine that, a teacher that is anti-American history. Seems to be happening more and more given the Left’s Long March through Education. Control the past, control the future and Bruce is ALL in on this.

Even the General US Grant statue you “destroyers of history” just took down – he pretty much smashed both the Confederacy and the KKK. That shows your Moral Superiority to us all. But he just had to go off on a wailing gig. And….

GraniteGrok
And you missed the point completely.

I can’t over emphasize that point more – Go ahead and be woke, Popular Mechanics and Popular Science. I’m done reading you. Wokness was only the decision point, MY driving point is that I don’t want it forced on me.  And that, Currie can’t seem to handle. Seriously – “trendy” is all he can call it? And he carries on his obtuseness that others don’t share his “everything is about race and that only Progressivism is the “right” way to think – but keeps going off track in throwing more and more irrelevant issues and points in order to ignore my one single poin:

Bruce Currie
Your complaint was about “wokness”, specifically regarding a trendy article explaining ways to take down Confederate statues, written by someone who professes to study “antifacism” in sports. Your emphasis was on the “wokness” of the article, its author, and by extension that of the magazine itself, which you’ve stated you will no longer read. You chose to deal with the article’s supposed “wokness”–identify politics– but made no effort to mention the underlying issue fueling the protests. Hint: it ain’t antifa, and it ain’t the Chinese.

GraniteGrok
No, the mag’s wokeness IS my problem whether you like it or not. If I’m reading a magazine about Science (or Mechanics), stay in your lane and stay out of politics. I do enough of that here and I won’t partake of it else where.

And I bet he found this rather puzzling (and I bet others here share the same sentiment as I):

Frankly, Bruce, I don’t CARE about the “underlying issues” when they start to break the Rule of Law, break the Right of Private Property, and break other people (Assault). If someone CAN’T CONTROL THEMSELVES or their emotions, I don’t want any part of their “social” justice (because once you put “social” in front of “justice”, neither of those things are present – it’s just another phrase to help the Leftist Agenda. And stop being an apologist for those that would do / are doing us harm.

And again, he just either refuses to, or worse, CAN’T understand my point:

Bruce Currie
So you wouldn’t have been OK with the Boston Tea Party either. You’ve also lost sight of the fact that the overwhelming majority of the protesters are peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights, in response to police actions that broke the Rule of Law. As for the demonstrators “doing us harm”: hardly. They are inspiring others all over the world as they exercise their democratic freedoms, during a time when those freedoms have never been under greater threat

GraniteGrok
You STILL have missed my point – but making it nonetheless in almost-real time. There are times to JUST. DROP. THE. POLITICS. But “woke” people just can’t help themselves. Thanks for playing along.

Here a good example of what Popular Mechanics used to turn out – straight line factual reporting: https://www.popularmechanic…  Now, not so much

He still doesn’t get it

Bruce Currie
But you’re playing politics as well by objecting to the article–and its author. BTW: I don’t consider myself ‘woke”. I loathe identity politics.

GraniteGrok
You have a hard time listening at times, Bruce. Your ears hear one thing but your Progressives glasses translate it wrongly. And you still are missing the point.

You’re a lost soul, Bruce, if you haven’t caught my drift even yet.

And someone else tried to correct Bruce – and once again, Bruce jumps off “the Racism Cliff”:

bilabus123  (quoting Bruce)
“Their intent was to demean and intimidate.” Okay crazypants, I guess that Colonel Sanders at the KFC should go next.

And Bruce’s answer is PERFECT in demonstrating how oblivious Progressives are when it comes to humor and light sarcasm – and he’s off to the Racism Races again:

Bruce Currie
Feel free to defend the Confederate statues, but leave the distraction of Colonel Sanders out of it. With any luck, he’ll soon be dating Aunt Jemina, and reminiscing about the good old days of Jim Crow with Uncle Ben, in the Museum of Stereotypical Advertising Symbols. I’m sure Ben can set him straight on that one.

GraniteGrok
Everything is about racism and oppression with Socialists / Progressives. Every thing they see MUST be interpreted from that lens.  And some rarely see anything as amusing. The personal is political and politics is the personal.

He’s still arguing about the Progressive / Zinnification of History….he’s the living embodiment of that old fog, 2 seater plane, and the Microsoft Tower.

Bruce Currie
Again, you’re trying to deflect and diminish the issue at hand. There’s no need for interpretation. The facts of history are clear on the cause of the South’s secession, and on the reason Confederate statues were erected in the public square decades after the war.

GraniteGrok
I’m not trying to deflect or diminish ANYTHING – all I’m declaring is that formerly non-political outlets have gone politically Left and in our face about it. You’re proving my point, again, that Progressive hectoring never stops and insists that EVERYTHING needs to be political ALL THE TIME. You’re also showing us the Progressive Pushiness again that everyone has to take YOUR side of any issue or they’re RAAAACIST – or Deplorables.

So here’s my simple answer to both of your actions that should be very easy to understand and assimilate: Up Your’s. Like it or not, you’re part and parcel of the Progressive parcel. We all see it but you can’t seem to see yourself in a mirror except surrounded by that really aren’t there but you are SURE that they are RAAACIST!

You’re morphed yourself into being the characterized stereotype Progressive Karen that we all laugh over and at.

One last time – the article was just the last straw of the Progressive process of politicizing EVERYTHING and then getting mad when people like me say “I don’t want to play”. EVERYTHING must be ‘engaged’ ALL the time to Progressive scolds like Bruce who are SURE that our efforts to disconnect are sure signs of being RAACISTS!

You know, Progressives just want us to stop talking and are trying hard to SILENCE! the rest of us.

I just want folks like Bruce, and Jan Schmidt, and Deb Stevens, and Debra Altschiller, and Gracie Gato (and other Progressives like them) to just keep talking and talking and talking. Those “ladies” especially as it’s like there is no “spew governor” between their grey matter and their mouths. That lack really shows us what they think of us – something we need more of it.

I will say this about Bruce – at least he is more couth than the ladies.
