What to Tell College Students (and Politicians) Who Demand Divestment from Fossil Fuels…

College students are idiots. Not all of them, but too many. These Resistance fighters can’t seem to resist the educational establishment Bulls***t being spoon-fed into their matriculating ( globally conscious, responsibly sourced, Fairtrade) pie holes.

Students at St John’s College at Oxford University have discovered their school has £8 million invested in BP and Shell. They demand the College divest these holdings because, ‘climate chaos!’

Two students at St John’s College wrote to Andrew Parker, the principal bursar, this week requesting a meeting to discuss the protesters’ demands, which are that the college “declares a climate emergency and immediately divests from fossil fuels.”

Unable to immediately meet their demand Parker (who agrees with them on principle) instead suggested, for the good of the planet, that he could turn off the “gas central heating.”

They were not amused.

Fergus Green, the organizer of the wider protest, who is studying for a master’s degree in physics and philosophy at Balliol College, said: “This is an inappropriate and flippant response by the bursar to what we were hoping would be a mature discussion. It’s January and it would be borderline dangerous to switch off the central heating.”

There is no acceptable low emissions replacement for the heat provided by fossil fuels. Nor will there be any suitable replacement short of a full blow grasp of nuclear as our primary source of electricity anytime soon. The gesture (turning off the gas in winter) is by far the most realistic representation of the dangers of left-wing climate alarmism.

I said they were idiots, and we’ve got them here, much older and no less wise. The adult versions of these moronic short-sighted students have been running energy policy in Northern New England for decades

ISO New England’s study concluded with a blunt assessment of the problem: “while the use of natural gas for both heating and power generation is growing, the natural gas supply infrastructure is not expanding at the same pace, resulting in natural gas supply constraints in winter.

The effect of this ongoing effort by dopey leftists to bloc pipelines and energy infrastructure is that,

emergency measures will likely be necessary almost every winter by the mid-2020s, with the grid operator estimating that rolling blackouts would be necessary in 19 out of the 23 scenarios they studied.

It’s like turning off the “gas central heating.” Only, you can’t just flip a switch and get heat.  And it is more than just “borderline dangerous.”
