City councilors in Cambridge Massachusetts have a new, “Welcoming Community Ordinance.” It was passed last week. They say it formalizes existing policy. Under the new ordinance, illegal ‘immigrants’ driving without a license in Cambridge will not be getting arrested.
They will be issued a summons. The question is if this is the de facto law; why bother. Where’s the need?

Hhhmmm… what does the new ordinance do to insurance rates? Why should everyone pay for the attack of conscience these social justice warriors had? Insurance carriers cannot look the other way because the city councilors changed the law.
Now it is just okay fine to be driving without a license? Does this mean we have increased public safety someplace else to compensate? Is Cambridge now liable for lawsuits arising from unlicensed illegal aliens operating within the jurisdiction? Does contributory negligence apply? Who pays for the lawsuits and the damages?
How about public awareness? Creating public awareness is a good thing; right? Wait; is public awareness of no restrictions on driving without a license a good thing? Does the new ordinance mean Cambridge is discriminating against the law-abiding citizens who bothered to get a license? Shouldn’t the city be reimbursing all legal drivers for the added cost of acquiring a license?
Why does being illegal make it OK?
Why does anyone need a license? Is there a transit option in Cambridge? Maybe there’s something wrong with the transit alternative? If illegals don’t need a license does that mean they also do not need insurance? Just give them a ticket. No big deal…. If illegals do not need insurance why would lawful citizens need insurance? And how does that police officer know the person they stopped is an Illegal Alien?
This is Massachusetts speak for we are not part of the United States. It is Cambridge thumbing its nose at Donald Trump by harming you and me. It is acting like an irresponsible teenager. They put the spin on their action that it is an effort to sidestep federal authorities with a new, local to Cambridge ordinance. Come on, who’s kidding who here?
It order for the Cambridge Police Department to conform, if they want to, that means the Cambridge Police Department shall… whenever possible… you understand… in the officer’s discretion … and if there are no other violations… causing the person to be arrested… to issue a summons to court instead of taking the person into custody. Do you know who you sharing the road with?
Let’s be fair… right?
Well, ain’t that nice. How completely fair of you. They are driving without a license. They haven’t killed anyone you know of… So I’m okay, you’re okay… That’s complete male bovine excrement put into an ordinance. This is Massachusetts sending its neighbors a crap sandwich. MMMmmmm… No, thanks.
This ordinance is a foolish practice of relaxing law enforcement standards to make life easier for illegal aliens. We are doing for lawbreakers, people who broke our law to get here, now add to the insult by operating a vehicle without a license, and probably no insurance. We do for lawbreakers, what we will not do for legal law-abiding citizens. That is wrong. Public safety standards and laws are there for a reason. Massachusetts law is: first-time offenders are subject to a fine, imprisonment of up to 10 days, or both.
If the reason no longer exists then get rid of the law. Do we need drivers’ license laws or not? It’s only going to encourage people to drive without a license and that’s not good for roadway safety. If they don’t have a license what are the chances they have insurance? Maybe New Hampshire should stop every car with Massachusetts plates to see if they are driving without a license. Seems like we have probable cause. Do you know who you sharing the road with?
