The left hates fracking. It creates jobs, stimulates growth in the economy, keeps energy prices down. All things they are happy to sacrifice on the altar of their green socialist god. So, is it any wonder Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a bill to end that growth and prosperity within five years?

The bill, announced at the end of last month, serves as a companion bill to the Senate legislation proposed by Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), one that Ocasio-Cortez helped draft. Both bills would ban fracking across the nation by 2025.
The laws would also prohibit fracking within 2,500 feet of homes and schools by February 2021. They also would provide a transition for working families in the fracking industry.
A transition to unemployment? And what about the millions of families who will be hit with higher energy and electricity prices and the trillions in lost wealth that fracking creates? How does that transition look?
Wait, here’s some more numbers to help paint that picture.
- From 2012 to 2014, the shale oil industry generated 4.6 million new jobs and created 3.5 Trillion in new wealth. Let’s pretend those numbers didn’t get any bigger in the past six years. Okay, forget that.
- From 2007 to 2013 American saved 18 billion in energy costs thanks to fracking. Money in their pockets put back into the economy.
- In 2015 Obama’s EPA “found no evidence that fracking “led to widespread, systemic impacts on drinking water resources.”
Fracking is safe. It creates millions of jobs and trillions in wealth. Poof, gone, buh-bye.
Add to that a return to energy dependence on nations that don’t love us, price shocks, and supply disruptions. And we should add that rolling brownouts and blackouts are likely despite the incredibly high price of electricity. Green technology still can’t function without natural gas backups, and almost all of that gas now comes from fracking.
And it has me perplexed.
Socialist countries need money to feed the government beast. Socialist nations with oil and gas resources want them out of the ground to prop up their tyrannies. But in America, the Democrat Socialists are so stupid that their first move is to ban that resource and the significant wealth it creates.
The only reason I can think of is that to make a socialist nation, you have to break the one that was there before.
AOC’s bill (and Bernie’s Senate Companion bill), the Green New Deal, any or all of it could break America. They should put that on a hat.
Make America Break Again?
