Committee Gives Thumbs Down to Adding Abortion Rights Amendment to the NH Constitution

CACR 14 was a proposed amendment to the NH Constitution. Its sponsors wanted to enshrine reproductive rights (abortion) into a document they barely know and often ignore. But for some reason, they figured it would keep us from messing with it.

The right to make personal reproductive medical decisions is inviolate and fundamental to the human condition. Neither the State nor any political subdivision shall infringe upon or unduly inconvenience this right.

It has come out of its committee with a vote of 18-2 as inexpedient to legislate. For non-residents and residents unfamiliar that means a yea vote when it hits the floor of the House means the representatives are voting to accept the committee recommendation to kill the bill. That CACR14 is unworkable crap.

Only two Democrats voted to save it (Timothy Horrigan and Debra Altschiller) in a Democrat majority committee so it must be awful. And it is.

Video if you are so inclined (under 12 minutes).
