Did you ever stop to think, what has socialism brought the world? All of the Democrat presidential primary candidates are socialists or their policy proposals are. So let’s run through some of the results of socialism.
The British, Russians, Chinese, Cubans, French
The British tried big state socialism in the 1960s and 1970s. It was a disaster. The Russian Revolution of 1917 was about remaking human nature into the new Soviet Man who would share everything. From each according to his ability and to each according to his need. They had to kill between 30 and 50 million people before they realized it just was not working.
The Chinese Communists tried the same thing. At least, 50 million people were killed or starved to death to bring about that socialist utopia. And it failed. It was a disaster. Cuba, smaller scale, same result. The French revolution was fought for the belief they could make the “new man” perfect and virtuous, once free of religion, income disparity and all of the rest. In order to bring about that paradise thousands of people had to be guillotined each week in what was called the great terror.
The Romans and the history of free stuff
And so it goes time and again back through history. The Romans in 150 BC were promoting the same progressive ideas. There is nothing progressive about progressivism… the belief that you can get something for nothing. The belief you can get the government to take something by force from other people and give it to you, like free healthcare, free college tuition, etc., has been tried many, many times before and it has failed every time.
The truth is: There is only one progressive idea. The truly progressive idea is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That is the one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea. The why we declared independence in 1776, and the how we published in 1787. That is what needs to be conserved, supported and protected. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservative. If you stop to think about it, what has socialism brought the world that works better or keeps people safer?
