The Democrats on the Fiscal committee are refusing to approve funds for the NH Attorney General’s office. The State is defending two election laws the Left hates. They are refusing money to the department to force the AG to drop these cases.
Judy Aron has the breaking news (edited).
The Democrats in Fiscal are refusing to pay AG bills. Complaints center around his defense of the 2 election laws. Senator Morse said he had never seen an Attorney General denied money for his litigation fund, but the Democrats (vote was 7 – 3) to cut his request significantly.
Dan (running for governor) Feltes and Lou D’Alesandro told [the NH Attorney General] to “prioritize ” which litigation pieces he chooses to pursue even though the AG said the constitution did not allow him to choose what to do and pointed out if the state didn’t fulfill its obligations under discovery, we lost the lawsuit by default.
Democrat special interests brought these lawsuits (yes, the ACLU is a Democrat special interest group).
Think about that.
The left is saying that they will encourage third-party lawsuits against existing laws (rules, or whatever) they dislike and then given the opportunity refuse to fund the State’s ability to defend so the law they hate stands a better chance of being hung up or struck down by the courts.
Sounds a lot like a quid pro quo, actually. You ignore laws we don’t like, we’ll write you a check.
It could come down to the AG deciding whether to fund benefits and payroll or to start investigations, enforce State law, or defend the law against challenges (in this case by liberal ax grinders).
Delightful tyranny you got there. Way to reach across the aisle. A nice example of bipartisanship.
And maybe it’s legal, I have no idea, but that hardly matters. This is a beautiful example of who the Democrat party is today.
Your duly elected legislature passed some laws. They were signed by the elected governor. We have a process in place for challenging them or changing them but that’s not good enough. Democrats need to kneecap anyone who gets in their way.
We’ll be asking for the transcript of this hearing and expect something from the Governor’s office as well.
Stay tuned.
