There is an old Soviet joke: “We make like we’re working – they make like they’re paying us”. Translation: the Pilgrim story I put up every Thanksgiving where Governor Bradford determined that the Socialist model (which allowed for able bodied slackers to have a slice of the reward without totally taking part in the responsibility) worked against normal human nature. The colony was failing and half the people died. Swapped in unfettered capitalism and turned the commons to private property – they not only survived but they THRIVED (relatively speaking).
And here is a microcosm of what Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, the Democrat Socialists of America, et al would bring to us today:
“Somebody else will do it”…
