We are in Silly Season

by

The Democratic presidential candidates just keep selling new government programs. Sure it is lying season on the campaign trail. But at some point, somebody has to ask: How are you going to pay for that?

If candidates cannot explain funding for new programs they need to button it until they can.

How will you pay for that?

There are leading candidates in this race who have not proposed how to pay for even 15% of their own proposals. Ask yourself, are these bold ideas? Are these plans and proposals responsible if you only pay for 15% of it? Doesn’t America deserve a campaign based on what is possible? Why can’t we get away from the Santa Claus versus Easter Bunny approach to campaigning?

It has been estimated that Senator Warren’s proposed plans would require $129 trillion in new spending over the next 10 years if all were successfully implemented.  That is $12.9 trillion per year in new taxes. It means our taxes will have to go up to a level five times what they are today. Can you afford that? It means if you pay 20% taxes or more you cannot because Fauxcahontas is going to have to tax you every cent you make. Think about it. It is simple math.

Warren is not being honest about the cost of her Medicare for All plan. It is a massive increase in taxes to this country and it hasn’t been explained to the American people. It’s a sound bite. Even her own top economic adviser told Bloomberg News two weeks ago that Warren’s tax plans fall short. It is plain her taxes as they currently exist are not enough to cover fully replacing health insurance. That’s the word from Emmanuel Saez the University of California, Berkeley economics professor who helped craft Warren’s “wealth tax.”

What do the friends say?

Other Democratic candidates have also criticized Warren’s proposals. Senator Amy Klobuchar, perhaps naively observed Warren wasn’t “being honest” about costs.  Hey Amy, they call her Lying Lizzie, Fauxcahontas, and Lieawatha… for a reason. Pete Buttigieg says she was being “extremely evasive” on the issue.  Joe Biden exhorted her to admit the plan is “gonna cost a lot of money.”

Warren dodged the funding question on appearances on The Late ShowJoe Scarborough commented that Sanders and Warren are not being pressed to explain the revenue side of the equation.  Saying you are going to do something there is no money for is telling a lie to buy your votes. If you accept more promises… How are you going to pay for that? Voters need to know.

Only you can force these lying sacks to tell us what the things they propose actually cost. It is important to do that before they start raising our taxes… and it is, all of our taxes, which will go up. Make sure what you are voting for is real. We are in silly season so don’t let them suck you in.
