NH Gov. Chris Sununu Signing Bill to Ban Offshore Oil and Gas Drilling (But He Likes Wind!)

Easy money, no up-front taxpayer backstops, and a resource people want and need. So, sure, let’s ban it. That’s the plan according to a report from US News. Gov. Sununu is banning oil and gas drilling off the coast of New Hampshire.

Sununu, a Republican, has opposed a Trump administration proposal to expand offshore drilling in the area. The administration has proposed expanding oil and gas development nationwide to make the U.S. energy independent.

What sort of energy does he favor offshore? Wind.

New Hampshire has expressed an interest in “milking” the sacred cow of offshore wind. To that end Governor Sununu recently asked the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to establish an intergovernmental offshore renewable energy task force for New Hampshire.

I think you all know how I feel about Wind, onshore or off.

If they can get the costs down and reliability up, ditch the government mandates and taxpayer bailouts and prove it’s not a bigger threat to the “environment,” I might support it.

They can’t do any of that yet. But it will appease more leftists, none of whom will vote for Republican Governor Sununu.
