House Democrats voted unanimously to allow boys (and men) to compete in girls and women’s sports. And they are so committed that they voted down a last-minute Republican attempt to save girls Title IX protected rights.
The bill amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to make “sexual orientation and gender identity” protected characteristics under federal anti-discrimination law.
Among other things, that would force public schools to expand female athletic teams to include biological males who identify as transgender girls.
Republican Florida Rep. Greg Steube introduced a last-minute amendment to the bill that would have preserved Title IX’s protections of female athletic teams, but Democrats rejected it.
Take note. The “party of women” does not care about Title IX protections for biological girls.
“People need to wake up. This radical bill is going to totally eliminate women’s and girls sports,” Republican Arizona Rep. Debbie Lesko warned in an op-ed Thursday.
Republican Missouri Rep. Vicky Hartzler and a half-dozen other House Republicans held a press conference Thursday in opposition to what Hartzler dubbed the “Inequality Act.”
“Congress enacted Title IX to provide equal opportunities for women in education and sports. All this is erased under H.R. 5,” Hartzler said at the press conference.
It’s not just sports.
- Bathrooms and locker rooms across the nation would have to be open to any man claiming to be transgender including sexual predators who are faking it.
- Doctors could be sued for refusing to offer hormone treatments or puberty blockers to children.
- Parents lose the right to prevent such procedures as well.
- People of faith would be compelled to abandon their beliefs. And everyone would be required to accept preferential pronouns under threat of police action.
HR5 is many things but mostly it is an all-out assault on your right to disagree with the Left’s agenda.
Women’s safe spaces like shelters and homes for battered women would likewise be compromised.
And taxpayers will be on the hook for lawsuits against schools by girls contesting the loss of Title IX rights as well as anyone “on the spectrum” who demands equal facilities for their particular “gender” under Title IX.
It’s a nightmare.
And while it has very little hope of passing in the Senate, or of getting signed by the President, or surviving a veto override vote (if it came to that), that doesn’t change the fact that this is the America in which the Left expects you to live. Deprived of rights of speech and conscience. And on the hook for the public cost of elective gender transition surgery through publicly managed health care programs.
Even if it violates your personal or religious beliefs.
I could quite easily say, at this point, that Democrats don’t care what you believe, but that’s not true. They care. You need to agree with them or else. And they will legislate the “or else” on every issue and harass and harangue you for disagreeing with them.
The only way to end it is to stop electing them into the majority. Be it the US House or the State House. Because they don’t care why you think they won elected office. They only care about advancing the far-left radical agenda once they get there.
