Europe and Canada are, in many ways, further along the spectrum of cultural identity-politics decline. It makes them a good barometer for what is coming our way. A court in Canada, for example, has “declared a father guilty of family violence for his polite refusal to refer to his daughter as a boy in private.”

At about the same time that story was published, the Supreme Court issued an additional, more heavy-handed “protection order” from the same ruling. The three-page document declares that the father, Clark*, will henceforth be subject to arrest, immediately and “without warrant” if any police officer has “reasonable” grounds to believe that he has in any way referred to his daughter as a girl in public or in private.
In the US this would qualify as compelled speech. The use of government force to make you use words or face criminal consequences. A relationship that the Left pines for here in America. A speech equivalent of a red flag law. Where a friend, family member, neighbor, or political enemy, can call you a “witch.” Branded, pilloried, and your reputation tarnished even before you’ve been dragged before the local magistrate for crimes against humanity.
In the Canada case, a provincial Supreme Court has ordered that his fourteen-year-old daughter receive testosterone injections against his wishes.
Her father, Clark, strongly objects to this treatment and immediately sought to reverse the decision in the BC Court of Appeal. “[These injections] will completely disrupt her puberty,” he lamented to The Federalist several weeks ago. “Her bones will stop growing, her brain will stop developing… and she’s not gonna be a boy. She won’t even have the bone-strength left to be a girl anymore.”
The Canadian government views his objections as equivalent to hate speech. An act of family violence. And should he persist (the court has imposed a gag order on him as well) he will be arrested and brought before the judge to consider his dimming future.
The left in America, and here in New Hampshire, must be swooning. The power to silence public dissent is one of their goals. At present they are limited to making this happen through slurs slanders and threats. Intimidation. They use lawfare, mob action, and organized campaigns that target your business to make you unemployable. They attack advertisers, service providers, associates, even your bank.
It would be so much easier if they could just compel your speech under threat of arrest and imprisonment. And if you think for one moment the Left is not working toward this goal you are sadly mistaken.
