Here is an update and a few additional thoughts.
First, GOP support for HB 706 was not as bad as I had thought it would be. Only sixteen GOP Reps voted with the Democrats:
Here is the link to the vote. And here are the names of the sixteen quislings:
Max Abramson
Charles Burns
David Danielson
Edward DeClercq
John Fothergill
Betty Gay
Edward Gordon
John Graham
Michael Harrington
Peter Hayward
Kathleen Hoelzel
Timothy Lang
Betsy McKinney
Fred Plett
Abigail Rooney
Steven Smith
A few thoughts for these quislings and for the Senate when it takes up HB 706 and for the Governor should HB 706 get that far. These thoughts are in addition to the problems with HB 706 discussed in my original post.
Do you really think that the Party that calls a residency requirement for voting in New Hampshire “voter suppression” is in the least interested in “nonpartisan” redistricting?
What kind of people do you think a partisan hack like Secretary of State Colin Van Ostern would appoint to the HB 706 commission?
If the Democrats retain control of the Legislature in 2020, HB 706 will prevent the Governor from effectively representing the interests of GOP and independent voters. Do you really expect this poll-driven, timid Governor to veto the product of a “nonpartisan” redistricting commission?
I could go on, but I think you get my drift.
