The tragedy that would become the Parkland massacre happened a year ago today. It was preventable. The barriers to prevention were the result of incompetent government at multiple levels. From policies forced down from the oval office to a ‘can’t be bothered’ attitude from the FBI, the local Sheriff’s office, and school administrators. Even armed security on-site couldn’t be bothered to put the lives of others ahead of their own.
The result was an unhinged student who never should have been armed murdering teachers and students while the State that promised to protect them was left with its pants down around its ankles.
We mourn the lives of those lost. We pray for the families of the dead.
And we fight to prevent the same top-down intrusive disarmament attitudes right here in New Hampshire that made that tragedy possible. The anti-gun zealots, preaching a progressive gospel that will create more victims no fewer.
The government will disarm you if you let it, but it has no responsibility to defend you. Nor is it culpable when that results in injury or death. It just pulls its pants back up and goes about the business of turning public spaces into target-rich environments for the next Nikolas Cruz.
Disarming everyone law-abiding citizens is not the answer unless the question is “what’s the best possible way to put our kid’s lives at risk in an active shooter situation?”
