Optics: Democrats Party in Puerto Rico While Government Workers Miss First Check

Thirty-nine House Democrats are partying with 109 Lobbyists at a resort in Puerto Rico. On a day “government workers” furloughed by a shutdown missed their first paycheck. Talk about the optics. The Left has been milking that sad cow for days.

Hard-working Americans (with no savings, apparently) living from paycheck to paycheck with no paycheck. Unable to make it until they get all that back-pay (which they will). Think of the children.

No not the children of Ronil Singh, the cop who was gunned down by an illegal alien. On the day after Christmas. We mean the children of the shutdown. A circumstance “resolved” if the party that loves to waste billions on whatever fancies them fancied 5 billion for a border wall that most Americans like and the experts agree will work.

Too Busy to Vote to Defend Americans

What’s the big deal. The Defense Department has 27 billion in unspent dollars they had to return to the treasury. Money Congress already allocated. Cash the Donald could use to build a wall if he declared a national emergency. Which he shouldn’t have to do. He’s looking for a down-payment. Something he could probably get if 39 Democrats sided with Republicans and voted on it like adults.

But they can’t. They took the weekend off. They’re sunning themselves on a beach in the Carribean. Hob-knobbing with lobbyists. Which, the last time I checked the Liberal narrative mill, was like dining with satan.

“This year’s winter retreat promises to be our most widely attended yet with over 220 guests, including 39 Members of Congress and CHC BOLD PAC supporters expected to attend and participate!” said the planning memo.

That’s 3.6 Lobbyists per member of Congress

They include those from several big K Street firms, R.J. Reynolds, Facebook, Comcast, Amazon, PhRMA, Microsoft, Intel, Verizon, and unions like the National Education Association.

What are Comcast, Amazon, Microsoft, and Verizon going to do about it? The absence of Net Neutrality isn’t the problem. It’s a border wall problem, not a firewall problem.

But it’s not all business. There is a lot of free timeNaughty boy Bob Menendez was spotted talking to a woman in  Bikini.

Nancy Pelosi, another ranking member invited, had the sense not to go. She missed out on partying with the cast of Hamilton. But her not going says something.

Hanging out with entertainers and lobbyists in the sun and sand during a shutdown has a downside.

This is it. The optics are bad. And they shouldn’t get a free ride just because they are Democrats.
